Re: Charlie Waters for head coach!!!
Hey PonySnob, have the last 6 years of losing not been enough for you? We don't need anoooother inexperienced head coach. We need someone who has experienced some succes on the major d1 level.
Re: Idea...A year's supply of mock turtlenecks might do the trick.
Seriously...Charlie Waters? Haven't we satisfied our quota for experimenting with unproven D1 head coaches?
First step is to get out of the SMU mindset that we have to set our sights low because we our SMU. I'm not saying it will be easy to land a big name guy who has been a head coach in D1 and has proven he can win but that's what we need. No more experiments. We're not in a BCS conference and for the last 20 years we have been a dead end for coaches (although I now some of our asst coaches have moved on to successful careers since leaving SMU). The one thing that is in our control is how much we want to pay a coach. We have no choice but to be willing to pay (overpay) for someone who otherwise wouldn't consider SMU. Other non-BCS schools have turned it around and we should be able to do the same. I won't rehash the schools that others have already mentioned. I'm sure Orsini maintains contact with coaches he likes and he is now in high gear trying to locate PB's replacement. Although I expect that the change won't be made until after the last game of the season, this is not something that you wait to start until that time. I like PB and wish him well but he has taken as far as he can. Imo, we have better players than we he got here but, as many others have stated on this board, he isn't much of a game day head coach. Orsini is not Copeland. It's obvious he's made improvements since he arrived (and look at his accomplishments at UCF in his short stint there). This will probably be Orsini's most important decision while at SMU, both for SMU but also for him. If he screws up, it will negate all of the other progress he has made and will not show well on his resume (which I would assume is a big part of his motivation). If he can turn SMU around, he is a well-known savior of an unsalvageable program and moves on to bigger and better things. I feel confident he's hard at work right now and come December we'll be excited about who he brings in.
Does he have elves slaving away in his workshop at the North Pole getting presents ready for all the good little boys & girls, too?
