This is the BEST day in SMU football in the past 5 years.
I haven’t posted in awhile…last year was the first time in ages I didn’t attend an SMU game…that is a by-product of dumbing down your schedule.
I thought about posting before the beginning of the season, but didn’t. I was going to say that I was actually rooting for either NTSU or Ark State to defeat SMU. Well, one did and I am extremely happy.
Here’s why….During the Phil Bennett era, SMU is 5 times more likely to lose a game by 30+ points than defeat a team with a winning record. Think about that one for awhile…SMU has only defeated 3 teams with winning records under PB…amazing* (I am excluding SHS)
Phil Bennett cannot recruit. Phil Bennett cannot coach. I didn’t want a 6-6 or 7-5 team bowl team if it meant the return of PB.
Looks like I will get my wish.
As I see it, I have waited for over 20 years, I can wait a couple more.

I would think any real fan would take a winning and/or bowl season regardless of who the coach was. I've never understood people who root for their team to lose to replace a coach... I'd rather win!
That said, Phil needs to go. Fire... now... please.

I hate to say it but I hope we lose some more,if it helps initiate change. Phil is not the man for this Job and it's gone on at least 1 year longer than it should. He should have been fired last year. When Orsini brought him back I officially divorced myself emotionally from this team. I knew this season would su@k just like those of the past. I refuse to invest time, emotion and money going to games we have no chance of winning. Until the University gets rid of Phil and hires a REAL coach, I will watch from home or look at updates on the internet.

Barely making a Bowl with Phil this year or last would only delay real progress. He is not a legitimate game day coach. It is time for a change.

Z-Man, I was all for PB when he first arrived, but I turned on him years ago.
Craig James said it best when SMU was defeating an enormously inept UAB team last Halloween in front of 9,000 faithful...‘SMU should dominate C-USA’
That is especially true of the weak-kneed West Division, yet under PB we haven’t come close.
PB lost his momentum after his 1st season. Since then, none of his recruiting classes have even been in the top half of either WAC or C-USA. Add to it his inability to HC coach and you see the results.
Vegas had Ark State favored tonight by 3 to 3.5 points...that is all you need to know about PB

We'd probably get blacklisted by NTSU when trying to get in....

You know, it ended up being a non-issue, but early in the 4th, my mother, who saw her first SMU game tonight, said, "if they had kicked that field goal instead of going for it, they would still only be down one score".
Poor coaching decision! You have a GREAT kicker and don't put the points up on the board? I can put up with plays that don't work, but out and out wrong decisions is unacceptable.

Don't you know: our coaches have forgotten more about FB than your Mother!

Maybe my mom should give it a try for a game? If we fire PB midseason, maybe the Pony Nation could call plays from this forum? Just a thought.

Does your mother have a moustache? No consideration given to her as head coach unless she does.

Did Cavan have a moustache? Bennett has been here so long, I forgot what Cavan looked like.

When there's an overwhelming sense of superiority and put-downs against teams that are equal or better than you are, I guess those fans have a right to gripe. But, the writing was on the wall and still SMU fans expressed a sense that they were "better than" ASU this year. I do agree, however, that the Sunbelt schools are at the bottom of the list, but the record of Sunbelt win/loss last year was 4-3 in favor of Sunbelt schools and this year it looks to be even better. Hey, everyone has a bad year or two or three or....... Just regroup, lick your wounds and get back into it. ASU will take their shot at Tennessee next week and it should be a good game in Knoxville. Good luck on your game with TCU.

I am just glad to know that we are doing things the right way.....with real "student-athletes"!!!!!! The real mission of SMU is to educate.....not win football games.
