The Real Meaning of Kool-Aid

Postby Statler » Sat Sep 15, 2007 10:59 pm

This post is for all you who do not understand (perunapower, General Patton, Big Daddy, Thadfilms, et. al.)

The Kool-Aid reference is to those who blindly follow a leader no matter what as demonstrated by Jim Jones and his requirement to those who follow him to drink Kool-Aid laced with cyanide.

When Bennett first arrived to the Hilltop, I was impressed. He said the right things and had a very compelling personal story with his first wife's death. However, after the Navy debacle of not being prepared for the option when he could have looked at Georgia State film to see that is all the Navy coach knew, and after the 0-12 season, it became clear to many that PB was in over his head and continuously gave his followers Kool-Aid by saying the right things when they where in fact meaningless.

A primary example of the Kool-Aid stuff is when Bennett complained that our OOC was too difficult. Copeland complied and put ASU (and we are not talking Arizona State) on the schedule. We go to Jonestown, er I mean Jonesboro, and lay a big fat egg. THIS SCHOOL WAS HAND PICKED BY BENNET FOR AN EASY WIN.

Please for the sake of Mustang generations to come, stop drinking the KOOL-AID...PB has go to go.

Didn't Jim Jones hand out his Kool-Aid in Jonesboro?

What kind of Kool-Aid are you speaking of?

I am frankly extremely offended. I have been unhappy with the Bennett, am I going to come on here and say anything that I wouldn't say in person. No? I don't hide behind anything. My whole theory is I love this team, I love this school... and I have and will kepp loving them forever. So anyone who puts in their blood swat and tears for my love... well I am not going to come on to a boar where you can't see me and throw him under the bus.

As least I use my real name... and more than that I have often signed my full name.

Thaddeus Darien Matula

That's who I am. I am not going to come on here and say anything that I wouldn't say to anyone in person.

What kind of freaking Kool Aid do you think I am on???? Do you think that I am sitting here happy? Hell no.

Am I going to call for Bennett's ousting on a board? Without any sort of face to face? Not my style. I don't think Bennett's long for this Mustang world..... but I sit here and think, when you put something out here you put it out for everyone. I am pretty sure that Bennett or someone in his family reads these boards, I am not going to say ANYTHING here that I would not say to Phil himself.

Let me put it to you in two other ways.... I would actually bring up a conversation with Orsini if I saw him tomorrow about O'Leary v. Bennett, just because that's the kind of guy I am. It wouldn't be confrontational, it would be in a humorous manner. But if he comes on this site, I would never back down from that post.

Second example.... I was unhappy with Brandon Jones play in the first two games... but what the f? He's better than I would ever be... and more than that he's coming off a year where he didn't play..... and more than that??? He plays for the Ponies.

I thought about coming on here and saying Brandon Jones sucks... and that frankly ain't the case... and I am not going to come on here and say that. More than that..... I didn't post at all after we started to get down.... a lot..... tonight, because I didn't want to come on here and say something that I might regret. I wanted to come on here and say "we suck", but I didn', becuase the day I come on here and say that, is the day that I stop being a sports fan. Why? I can think it, I can feel it.......... but if I put it out there for everyone, I might as well throw in the towel and say it's not even worth it.

You have to believe. You have to put your best foot forward. And I won't come on to a "fan" site and throw my players and team, again, under the bus.

Just because I live and die by my team doesn't make me stupid. It makes me appreciate why I love sport, life, and the Mustangs.

The Mustangs are like your children, you don't love them because they are good, you love them because they are yours.

With that, I'm off to do something other than read ponyfans.

BTW - Darth, I am not flaming on you or anything, just stating that i disagree with your assumption. And I am a little hacked about tonights game. However, I cooked a nice meal and am ready to wind down.

Thad, yes you and I and many others love our school and this Mustang team. My thoughts are that after 20 years the skin is quite thin and losses like this one and last years NTSU game really hurt.

When I was at SMU we never lost a game, NEVER. When my parents went to SMU we were ok to good. WE ARE MUSTANGS.

I like PB also, I like Joe Sawyer and JB and all the coaches I have met. Bottom line is.... we do not see our players in position to make the athletic plays we have been told they can make.

I sure hope PB does well next week and every week after.

What SMU really needs is a long stretch of good years with the same coach. Security, love and success. That is what builds a fan base.

Tired is what I am. Not as tired as some older than I, but tired.

See you at the UTEP game.

Go Mustangs.

Jonestown. Jonesboro. What's the difference? The Mustangs can't keep up with the Joneses.

I wish I was as strong a fan as you are. I have to move on to NFL games. I'm not sure what this team can do to win me back. I cannot handle the depression. College is in my past until further notice.

comparing our football coach to a mass murderer is one of the most idiotic post I have ever read..........to call out several posters because of their loyalty to their university, football team and this fan board, is just wrong............

I agree...very nice post Thad. I'll get onto people for what they say, but never for their loyalty to SMU. I don't blame anyone on here for being frustrated though, 20 straight years of losing is more than most people can handle.
