that about sums it up and I think Bennett knew coming in that this year's team would not be as good as last years. The schedule doesn't help, either. Replacing SHSU with TCU meant that last year's 6-6 would be difficult to match.
We had a pretty good DL last year but there was no depth to replace 3 of 4 starters. The Carrington news was simply insult to injury, but the bottom line is that Bennett had his opportunity and this is his roster.
Watching the TTech game, when they posted Bennnett's quote that "he wanted to be the guy to turn this program around"...WANTED TO BE? Not "I WANT to be"? Told me all I needed to know. I think Bennett knows he bought one final year and unless these guys could beat either TTech or TCU and make a bowl, his head coaching career may be over.
I think everyone wanted Bennett to be the guy, but it is becoming clear he won't be. We all think we have the facilities but we need a "pied piper" coach. The college game is about recruiting. Great athletes make coaches look like great coaches. Not saying there aren't coaches out there would could do more than Bennett and his group have done with this roster, but the next caoch is going to have to be a guy who can bring in more/better athletes
The question I have right now is; does this whole team believe the Bennett era is over and if so, how will they respond? Are we going to see a bunch who will fight to the end or are we in for a blowout in Ft Worth and more to follow before season's end?
