As a corollary to another thread, I want to focus discussion on the defensive aspect of the game. Frankly, fix our defensive woes, and SMU is back in it for the rest of the season. If there is any truer test of Bennett's abilities, it is that. Seriously, if the offense's back is against the wall 50% less than it is, SMU wins that game last night.
Every SMU team has had a weakness. We all knew that the defense was going to be this teams until it found its horse.
Seriously guys...much of the offensive playcalling is a function of being behind. THAT is why DMart's name isn't called much. And given that the D is struggling, any mistake on the part of the offense resonates louder than it would otherwise.
So, rather than chunk the season (because I'd like to see some good home games with a team that feels like it is still in it), give the board some feedback on defensive improvements. Why not? Beats waiting 10 weeks for another coach with nothing to do.
Even if Bennett is done, I'd like to see some defensive razzle-dazzle this season. There is nothing to lose, the way I see it. The guy is supposed to be a genius here. Well, if that's the case, then prove it.
