Centennial Plan

Postby SMU Football Blog » Wed Sep 19, 2007 12:44 pm

I was perusing the Centennial Plan today on the SMU website. Much of it wasn't public until the last few days. I am not going to kid you; right now it is just a bunch of goals. But I saw something in there that absolutely floored me. Now, you can be cynical about this; that is your right. I was just surprised to see it in black and white. I do know there was a time that writing the following would have been scoffed at.

Goals and Objectives

...

Goal IV: To Support And Sustain Student Development And Quality Of Life

...

Goal Four Objectives

...

Objective Five: Strengthening of intercollegiate sports programs to be more nationally competitive.

I believe this. Check out the 'other sports' section. I believe SMU dominates in women's rowing and women's horsy riding. SMU is dedicated in spades to these nationally recognized endeavors. We are so dedicated, that we cut a nationally ranked men’s track and field program so we can support these sports. Rumor is that we are looking to field a women’s field hockey team and we will cut men’s football to support it. The administration is pretty certain that nobody will notice the difference.

too vague. More nationally competitive? In football, we would be more nationally competitive if we lost by 20 instead of 30 to Texas Tech and if we beat Arkie State.

It's funny that's an objective under the goal "To Support And Sustain Student Development And Quality Of Life" when the students don't care.

Expect a loss in all revenue sports but be pleasantly surprised when the Mustangs win. (also known as the jtstang addendum)

My apologies...here's what you wrote in a previous thread: "...you should have no expectations on Saturday."

Thank you. Dude, I thought when you came back you were on board with the philosophy. You clearly need work.

I'm still looking for the chapter in the Stallion model that includes making constructive suggestions, rather than merely blasting any and all policies and practices that are in place.

Or are those ideas presented at the Mustang Club gatherings Stallion hosts at his home?

I am. Unfortunately, my mind is a bit distracted at the moment. My wife (a Mustang) is battling a pretty severe illness. Bear with me.
