Cock-eyed Believer

On the evidence of the first 3 games it is possible that we will not go to a bowl but it is certainly not impossible that we will go to a bowl.

I am a cock-eyed optimist but the way I see it....

1. We were actually closer to completing the comeback against ASU than people think. Even with all the earlier mess-ups if JW does not fumble the ball and instead turned it into a TD it would have been a different result.

2. Our defense is not awful. At times last Saturday they did some great stuff. We just need greater consistency. We no longer need to hold a team under 20 points to beat them.

3. TCU. Yeah they are a good team. But their QB is nothing special and our Run-D is ok. I think we will play them close, if not beat them. JW needs his WRs to catch the balls they get offerred. A big day from Muse and Martin and we can win.

4. We as fans need to give our team confidence. We have seen them make the plays. We need to let them know that we notice more than just their mistakes.

I want to see effort and belief. from coaches, players, and fans. The negativity on this board is not helping to get W's. Orsini is not going to fire PB becsue we think he should. Not to dent any egos but he will do what he thinks best. I trust him.

I can give the benifit of the doubt on everything you said but this I cannot let go. Our defense is AWFUL- there is no way around that.

that's the one point that really made me laugh In 45 years of watching college football their performance ranks as the worst that I can recall. Now if more teams wanted to run it up on the 1989 team(instead of just UH) they could have- believe me. Gregg was treated with respect by others or it really could have been more embarrassing. Several schools probably could have gotten at least 700 yards if they had wanted to.

Lou Holtz telling his boys to run it out of bounds at the 5 comes to mind.

UT completely shut down their offense in the 3rd Q and I swear ran just about every play between the tackles. It may have been 1991 but Baylor didn't even bother to ATTEMPT a single pass with the great J.J. Joe.

A polite intention but probably one of the most embarassing moments in SMU history. It is my understanding that Holtz had actually just told the kids to take it easy and not run up the score and the player thought it was the right thing to do.

I have seen every single play this season, and I have been shocked, at how poorly we have played.

I was at the game. We really had no chance to win no matter how you sugar coat it.

Your coach Bennett has brought much disgrace upon his house. The only way for him to maintain what little honor he still has is to undertake seppuku. If he does, I will volunteer to be his kaishakunin.

I know that I might be too hopeful. I just always believe in the underdog.

Did you or did you not see us give up 600+ yards to a team with a high school coach?

Yes I did. I saw us beat them too.

You can get as upset as you like about the D but like I have said before, we now have an offense that can score points so our D does not need to be stiffling, we just need to limit the other team a little. I think that as the season progresses that will happen. There is no way that we will be this bad in the second half of the season.

I believe that was 1993, actually. Supposedly, JJ Joe's arm was sore, so Teaff decided to run the ball. They lined up with that ugly looking 3 back formation and just ran the ball the entire game, at will. I also seem to recall that they also called a fake punt in that game in the 3rd or 4th quarter with the game clearly out of reach.

Stifling? You actually wrote stifling...that description should not be anywhere near the words "Mustang Defense."

Our defense isn't stifling? No [deleted] Sherlock.

And we haven't even "limited" people's defenses this year, people are setting RECORDS against us weekly, so your view that we will play better in the 2nd half is curious at best.
