Most of you know I've been here for a while, maybe even longer than I should be - I hope that I have, at the very least, been a decent guest as you all have been a wonderful host to me. Mind you, Southern Methodist University was a university that I indeed considered.
I also hope that many of you will make the trip over to Fort Worth today; it's a lovely place I'm sure you'll see. Walk around downtown or even the world-famous Stockyards. If you have time, spend it at the world-famous museum district, featuring some of the greatest art in the world.
More importantly, however, visit the campus. If you haven't been to our campus within the last five years, you are going to certainly be amazed. Within that time-span, we've spent nearly 300$ million in renovations and additions--we spend 5$ million a year on flowers alone, on that note.
Take the time to walk through campus over University drive, not just by it to get to the stadium: this is where the true beauty lives. In the heart of campus, you'll notice a boatload of construction,the University Commons [Click Here] , a 150$ million addition to be completed in 2008 - 09, partly inspired by SMU's commons. You'll see the new bookstore on University - to be completed in December - another huge project in the works. Walk down Berry Street - if you don't know the history of Berry Street, ask.
Okay, the lead up to Amon Carter Stadium is now finished. Onto the stadium itself: it's a [deleted] dump. I doubt there's a more disgusting place in the country as I have yet to find one. However, do not despair! Within the next five years, the place will receive a total makeover! With over 150$ million being dumped into the project, the goal is to make Amon Carter Stadium the "Camden Yards of college football."
Please let me know what you think of our campus and its facilities when you return later tonight / tomorrow. Our trustee's goal is to make Fort Worth's campus the "most beautiful in the country."
