Have we ever, EVER been successful when he has decided to go for it inside the other teams 40 yard line? EVERY time we are stuffed. Of course, we always hand it off to a midget back when we make the try!

Not when you give the ball to a smurf.

Rusty Burns should sit up in the box, get a TV and watch whatever other college ball game is being played at that time and just call the exact play that the OC is calling at the time.
In this game, he would've seen Major Applewhite call some pretty nice plays for Alabama. Too bad Alabama lost.

What we should actually do is the next time we go on a road game is leave Burns in the press box at Ford, with a dummy headset (now if that isn't the definition of irony) and let him go.... Now where to put him for the home games....???

I thought I heard Bennett say on the post game that he made the fourth down call. (Could be wrong -- wouldn't be the last time)

Can't even remember the last time I saw an SMU QB under center. I'm sure it was before Burns arrived..

I really don't believe the problem is that we don't call the right play as much as it is that we can not execute the right play. Seriously way to much hully gully from Willis. Obviously, the OLM and WR share the blame but come on no coach draws up plays where your QB has to run in triple circles in his backfield and then hope some gets open. Are our WRs so bad at getting off the line that we can't call a play that works within 3 seconds. Let's go study some Tech films because we simply can't execute. Tech runs those plays. Southlake Carroll runs those plays. SMU can't and I can only assume its a combination of WRs who can't get off the line, OLM that can't hold their blocks and a QB that can not make the correct reads. There are plays that can be run to overcome a pass rush.

While your arguement is valid, on 4th and 1 you can only execute the "Let's line up in shotgun formation and give it to the shrimp who's lined up 4 yds behind the LOS and run him around the opposing defense on the opposite side of the field" play so well...

You really believe Mapps up the middle (out of the spread) on 4th&1yd driving before half against a tought tcu D is anything less than moronic?
This may be your most ridiculous rant ever.

SMU did not lose that game because it couldn't convert onr 4th and 1 with Mapps. I was under the impression that Martin had his bell rung anyway-so I didn't make a big deal out of it. Clarification? Yes as I've posted numerous times that is ONE bad call in a line of previous bad calls where I don't feel SMU is using Martin correctly. Now let's focus on the other 75 offensive plays in the game. That call was not the reason SMU lost. The reason SMU lost was because it couldn't execute its offense and resorted to sandlot football especially in the 2nd half-and the turnovers.
