One year ago, Brett Bomar (OU)transferred to SHSU, a Division I-AA school where former Division I-A quarterbacks Chris Chaloupka (Oklahoma State), Josh McCown (SMU) and Dustin Long (Texas A&M) each earned Southland Conference player of the year honors. McCown is the Oakland Raiders' starting quarterback. "They have some history of transfers here," Bomar said. Bomar will start on Saturday against Oklahoma State in Stillwater.

The UNC transfer never made it onto the field.

Now...what's the point of this thread, Doak's Ghost?

SHSU attracts passing QB's and makes all-conference players out of them. SMU had one of these talents but didn't get the same results. Coaching matters in recruiting and game results. Bomar is next in Huntsville. Wonder what they could have done with Willis?

Thanks for the compliment to my alma mater. The previous coaching staff under former head coach Ron Randleman (now retired) was responsible for the successes of the QBs you mentioned. The jury is still out on what 2nd year head coach Todd Whitten - a former QB at Stephen F. Austin and former head coach at Div. II Tarleton State - can do with former OU QB Rhett Bomar. Frankly, I want J-Will to stay on The Hilltop and take the Mustangs to new heights!

The UNC transfer QB was Luke Huard. He's now an asst. coach at an Oregon college.
