you need to add a realistic option, i.e. after the season if Bennett doesn't meet the stated goals.

If we wait until the year is over, Orsini better have a new coach already hired, or we lose a full year of recruting.

This is going to hijack this thread, but I'm going to call out the Orsini people here...when does the clock start ticking on Orsini's decisions on the 2 money sports? When does he become accountable, after he fires PB and hires the next guy, with the same model some of you asshats called "Copeland" had to work with?
If not them, who? If not now, when?

Well, if Orsini wants results, he and his candidate better take advantage of the opportunity to make some changes (recruiting standards, juco transfer hours, etc.).
I really like Phil, and it is difficult to see my own feelings realized--getting a new coach, sad, really sad. Unfortionately the cement dried on this decision today. He will probably get a raise as DC somewhere, maybe Notre Dame!

at this point, the recruiting factor looks compelling. problem is, who is available right now? Bowden ain't coming. gotta wait for the season to end before any of the coordinators are available. thats what we will get again most likely.

I don't consider myself an "Orsini guy". But more importantly, I'm not a Phil guy anymore either. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt earlier, but I've been punched in the nose too many times to keep forgiving him.
What I am, is a fan/alumni/supporter that is ready for a change, and at this moment in time, change is represented by Orsini. Orsini's record is a positive. Bennett's record is cr@p. Given those choices, I'll put my money on Orsini.

PB should've been fired after losing to Rice last year. The light on SMU Football dimmed a bit for me when Orsini didn't can him. He was a lame duck going into his first game this season. Too bad we have to wait another whole season (or two or three) to see any progress on the field.

let Orsini do his thing. Pretty much a given when the new guy comes in that he will want to bring in "his guys". Bennett would have had to accomplish more with less to save his job, and obviously that isn't going to happen.
Very entertaining game today. It's just tough to always come out on the short end of these.
I think it is a foregone conclusion that this season will be Bennett's last. The challenge is to bring in someone who can sell this trainwreck to a higher caliber of recruits. I assume Orsini will be looking for someone with a name so we can reach out beyond that 300 mile radius for help. Or at least someone who can get more DFW kids to stay home.

I don't think Orsini was allowed to fire him because of PB's new 3 year contract that Copeland had put in place that would have had to be bought out, and the fact that the department was in the process of paying off Tubbs for the remainder of his contract. Too much money to pay out to can him then!

There is no time like the present. Bring in Terry Bowden to take over now and at least recruiting can continue to move forward. He can evaluate the current players and build a staff after the season is over.
