8 Star UTEP Backfield

Marcus Thomas 4 star Parade All-American BCS transfer and Lorne Sam a 4 star BCS transfer riddled the SMU "defense" for about 406 yards. Does UTEP win that game without Sam or Thomas? Were they the difference in the game. Does SMU's Model allow those kids to get into SMU? ADVANTAGE UTEP. SMU looking for a new coach. Its a good thing their 4 star BCS transfer backup RB Terrell Jackson didn't play or it would have been a 12 star Rivals backfield. Pretty clear cut example of how no Coach at SMU is playing with an even hand. Bennett gets blamed for a poor coach while Price is a genius. You people that want to blame every little thing on coaching have your head up your [deleted]. Pure athletic talent was the difference.

Well, Bennett got some improvements made, now its up to the demands that can be acheived by Orsini and his candidate, before he signs.

Hey Stallion--- I like the "defense" in quotes. On another thread I asked if this is the worst group of atheletes we've had on D in the last 20 years, because this certainly is the worst D we've put on the field in that time frame. Any thoughts on that?

We ve seen some real bad defense over the years, but I am hard pressed to remember it ever being this bad. If the defense is the worst in the last 20 years then it is worst in school history.

And 4 star Rouse looked AWFUL! The stars had nothing to do with it. UTEP got fewer yards against our defense than NORTH TEXAS, which has ZERO 4 star recruits. Of course, I wouldn't mind a few on our side, but the primary problem is that our D can't tackle worth a hoot as Bennett ACKNOWLEDGED in his post game interview. This is DISGRACEFUL especially considering that he is supposed to be an "EXPERT" defensive whiz, these are the players that he recruited, and he has had enough time to teach them HOW to TACKLE! I think we should make the change now, but I am sure that Orsini will wait until the end of the year. Who knows, Bennett might be able to talk him into yet ANOTHER year before canning him? Afterall SMU will have to pay off yet another contract before its up!

You sure you want stick with this partially inaccurate analysis?

Because if you do, then you're not as smart as you think you are.

without a doubt those two kids were the difference in the game. SMU's players were in position all nite long-they just couldn't stop the athletic talent of these two kids. That's not coaching folks. Oh yeah forgot-poor tackling technique-yeah well better athletes make Coaches geniuses and defensive coaches and fans point to tackling technique.I ask again does UTEP win without either one of those kids.

Then you just proved that you're not as smart as you think you are.

I agree with you Stallion that athletes make a coach. However, I did not get a response about my question regarding this as being the worst group of athletes in 20 years on "defense". Thoughts?

no we had way worse in the first 5 probably 6 years of our return from the DP.
