How do we hire a new coach??

Quick question about the process of firing/hiring coaches...

Is this going to be one of those things where we have to hire a strategic panel to decide on a coach or does Orsini have the say himself? For some reason I remember having to go through a long process to get Doherty...

If it's like most colleges, I believe there will be an "official" search committee formed with Orsini as the chair of the committee. But, Orsini is the workhorse behind finding someone and is ultimately where the buck stops.

SMU will hire a consulting firm shortly after notifying Bennett and Orsini will then form a search committee. Search committee will likely meet once shortly thereafter. Orsini will do almost all the work, identify the guy. Orsini will then call for a seacond meeting of the search committee and submit him to the search committee who will get about 30 minutes to talk to him and then vote to approve. Coach will be introduced to the media the following day.

As an example, the search committee meeting to vote on Doherty was called with about an hour's notice.

BTW, the consulting firm hired will almost certainly be Eastman & Beaudine.

Do they do this exclusively? It seems like there is large sums of money in the business.

theres a ton of money in it. think about all the professional sports teams (all of them), then think of the hundreds of universities with athletics programs. someone is always being hired/fired

would be very surpised if Beaudine has not already had a few meetings with big O.

Expect a short process.

What is about Eastman & Beaudine that makes you so certain we will be using them (not that I have any reason to doubt them, as this is the first time I have ever heard their name)? Have we used them before, or does Orsini have a working relationship with them. If this is a firm we have used before, would we not be well served by looking for a different point of view?

Eastman and Beaudine was used to in the AD search that led to Orsini.

Eastman and Beaudine was used to in the coaching search that led to Doherty.

Oh, and Eastman and Beaudine will be used in the coaching search for the next football coach.

Do I need to beat the tambourine and pass the offering plate to pay for all of this?
