So if it turns out that SMU does in fact look for a new head coach after this season, how about we round up a thousand people willing to pony up an additional grand to add 1M to the pot. If it was a doable thing, and an organized operation, I'd kick in an additional thousand over and above the Mustang Club donation. How about anyone else? I'm sure there are some who could contribute multiple $1000 blocks.

The only drawbacks I would see are:
-this assumes there are 1000 people that supportive of SMU football
-1000 people need to want to change the coach with no assurance that the 'model' will be changed

Those on this board who are Methodist, we could liken this to a capital funds campaign, similar to what is done when a new sanctuary etc is built. The last time a church I belonged to had such a campaign (for a sanctuary), 50 families donated the first 1.2M.

I agree, expony..the proposed slush fund would only be if Steve O decides to pull the trigger. Not a lynch mob for PB's job. That strategy didn't work so well when Auburn tried it a few years ago, targeting Petrino to take Tuberville's place.

Why? Because he recruited you or because you think he is actually a good coach who is capable of producing a true winner at SMU?

Because it's a pretty [deleted] attitude to donate money just to push for some one else to lose there job. I'm just saying this in general, but if you put up money just to get some one fired, that reveals an awful lot about your character.

And there are no guarantees it would solve a thing if Bennett goes. I'd put money down if it became evident that there will be an actual, practical, commitment to winning in football here. And if that entails hiring a new coach, then so be it.

Alright, so it looks like we'll have three. That's an extra 3 grand (including expony if it takes place after PB is gone). That'll get us the defensive coordinator from Ben Bolt High.

I wasn't saying anything about that. Everybody knows being a good guy doesn't pay the bills. And of course I haven't worked in the real world. I've been a pizza delivery guy, a hockey player, and a college student. I am completely ready to admit that I have very little basis for commenting on how things work in the business world.

However, having said that, it's not about performance. Besides that, if people don't like you, or do like you, you would probably hold on to the gig you have until you have another stable source of income. [deleted] what other people think, you have to pay the bills. The only thing I meant by that, is that it's in poor character to make a financial commitment to fire someone as opposed to fixing the problem. In most cases, an individual not performing up to standards is the source of the problem. A la, you get rid of them and replace them with someone competent, the problem is fixed. Seems to be a little different here in the football department at SMU.

If you want to make a financial commitment to developing a winning program, and that includes a change of coaches, then so be it. But this appears to be "waa waa I hate Phil Bennett he's a moron I'll put up money JUST to get someone else in here." Doesn't fix the problem, and you're a tool for wanting to "pony up" just to have some one fired. Not you, just in general.
