"I put this entire game, the end of the game on the offensive line and myself," Ben Poynter, senior offensive lineman and captain said. "There is no other excuse for what happened."
He won't point fingers at other units, just feels that he and his mohawk buds should have played better. I applaud you Ben.

This is an example of sacking up and being a man.

I have never read a story quoting Ben in which he didn't say FIRST that he (or he and the rest of the offensive line) could have played better. For all of his mentions on award watch lists and as a possible all-conference candidate, he is the first to realize everyone on the team can play better.
I also noticed in Kate's game story that he was the only player to address the media after the game. Couldn't have had a better spokesman. Big Ben is pure greatness.

That's troublesome. Why are he and his teammates never able play at their peak?

OK, good point. I didn't phrase it too well.
Let me try again:
"I have never read a story quoting Ben in which -- if the Ponies didn't win the game -- he didn't say FIRST that he (or he and the rest of the offensive line) could have played better, taking the blame on himself, his offensive linemates and indirectly the entire offense. But he never points the finger at teammates ..."

Very noble of Ben, but from what I saw, the offensive line was hardly the problem.

Notable Bennett quotes:
We were ready for the flip (onside) kick," Bennett said. "We had our tallest guy there and we knew it, we called it and it just went off his hands."
"I think you would have to put an asterisk on this [loss], because I thought we had opportunities to really put the game away and we didn't do it."
He maybe a nice guy. But WTF!!!

You know-as I said on Saturday Nite and after reviewing the replay, SMU was ready for the on-side kick. It was an incredibly lucky but incredibly great onside kick. Again, not Bennett's fault-obviously the penalty was Bennett's fault. Its called execution and making a great play. You are being petty in claiming SMU was not ready for the kick.

A fair catch would have been the proper action. Not only would we have gotten the ball but probably an additional 15 yards for intererence. We were not prepared properly, and did not execute properly.

How telling is this stat (from Daily Campus article):
"The Mustangs rushed for 169 yards in the first half, just 88 yards in the second half and just 13 yards in the fourth quarter. In the fourth, the Miners erased a 42-28 deficit and forced the game into overtime."
How do you faulter on a 14 point lead in the fourth quarter? Pass the ball, stop the clock. Why aren't we running the ball? Kill the clock and tire UTEP's defense!
I wish I could say this is a new problem, but it's not.
