Face it guys...SMU is football coaching purgatory. In most instances, after a stay here, any place else is heaven. For those coaches already on the outs and thus in hell, their only excuse for coming here is to hope to create a miracle and turn the program around and show they belong in heaven and not a continued existence in hell.

Money, money, and more money and that may not even get a top-level coach here. SMU is probably going to have to 'over pay' someone just to take the job unless they go after another unproven coach who will try to use SMU as a stepping stone to a BCS head coaching job. SMU will also have to tweek its admission policies and requirments to allow the new coach to recruit on a more level playing field with its competition.

So the guy coached at Duke, which isn't much better than SMU, but his ego will probably not let him come back. This is what is most disturbing to me about having Phil failed here is the fact that he's just another in a long line of coaches to do so here. I'd love for him to turn it around and stay, but you have to wonder how much damage his brand has taken over these years.

Maybe I'm in outer space, but I just see this job as an opportunity for some coach who has more $ than anyone needs to come to SMU and put his name among coaching greats. You have a story that is almost written for Hollywood. The coach that does it will become a hero to much of the country. I know many disagree SMU got shafted for all the NCAA's problems, however most of the country, I believe thinks they did too. Most would love to see this program back in the national mix again.
