And the real kicker is that each of these teams/schools will be laughing the whole time they are counting their BCS checks. Even successful non-BCS programs like TCU/Boise would be happy to be pulling in close to the amounts these schools make just because of their conference affiliations.

Your chances probably would have improved if you had asked someone.

One of the unfortunate aspects of all this was that the SWC was the conference that got raided. It was the weakest internally and had the most in fighting and the most private schools (4). Baylor and Tech would have been snubbed but for the help of Ann Richards and Bullock. The ACC was threatened with defection by Clemson back then which was eyeing the SEC with South Carolina (it only had two private schools Duke and WF). It shored itself up by getting Georgia Tech and FSU. The PAC 10 only had two private schools (USC and Stanford). The Big Ten had one private school Northwestern. Had Baylor and Tech been snubbed the SWC probably would still be in existence with probably Tulane, UTEP and NM added to replace Arkansas, Texas and A&M.
