SMU fortunate as Keith Whitmire....

is replacing Rick Alonzo as the beat writer at SMU for the DMN. Whitmire is professional, experienced and excellent sports writer. Whitmire will assume the role immediatley.

He's also an SMU alumnus and fan. I wonder if that will be reflected in the coverage of SMU.

Outstanding! I didn't have anything against Rick but Keith as an SMU alum will have insights that only one of the chosen can appreciate.

That's great news for SMU. Keith is a great writer and a great guy, and as an SMU fan, you have to love it when your beat reporter has a dog named Doak.

I thought Rick did a great job covering SMU. When there weren't enough stories (always), it was the editors' decision, not his, so I'm not sure that will change with Whitmire covering the team. I'm sure Whitmire will do a good job, but I don't know how much his SMU allegiance will help increase coverage.
I think Whitmire will do a great job, but I'm sorry to see Rick go. Good luck, 'Zo, whatever you end up covering.
