from The Lufkin Daily News:
Q: I was reading about the fantastic numbers being put up by the Diboll quarterback this year  something like 17 touchdown passes and no interceptions going into this past Friday's game  and was wondering what the school record is for a Diboll quarterback? Is he getting anywhere close?
A: Diboll QB Jacolby Spencer, who's only a junior, is on a pace to break the Lumberjacks' single-season record for touchdown passes. The Diboll High School record is currently shared by Cedric Vinson (1999) and Luis Rios (2003), both of whom threw for 24 touchdowns in their senior seasons as a Lumberjack. Rios had the pleasure of throwing the ball anywhere in the vicinity of talented Jermichael Finley, who is now catching passes for The University of Texas Longhorns, and the 6-foot-5 Finley would bring down the completion. Vinson has come full circle, having played for the Ponies of Southern Methodist University and is now a member of Head Coach Gary Martel's DHS coaching staff.
But Spencer  should he stay healthy and continue to get great results from his talented wide receivers, backs and tight end  has ample time left this season to top Vinson's and Rios' marks for touchdown passes.
As for passing yardage in a single season, Rios set the standard in 2003 with 2,178 yards passing  a large amount of that going to Finley that year. Spencer will not likely be able to top that, but it's not outside the realm of possibility. He came into this past Friday's game with 991 yards through six games. Should Diboll go at least two games deep into the playoffs and Spencer could duplicate that total, he would be right at 2,000 yards passing through 12 games  which is not that far from Rios' 2,178.
At least Diboll fans have plenty of reasons to cheer for Spencer and the 'Jacks this year.
