The Last Tulane Punt

Just watching the replay of the game. I was only able to record the 4th corner and cut off the last drive, but that is another story.

One thing struck me on the the last Tulane punt, SMU didn't put a man back to recieve the punt since it was so close in our territory, which I get. But I noticed 3 players hanging back not rushing the kick. What is the point of not having a return man if you don't all out rush the kicker for a block? The guy got off a terrible kick, but I don't get the strategy. Anyone with thoughts on that? I would think you would go for a block since they were undoubtably get downed onthe 20 or inside it and if you are going to go for the block - rush 11 men.

If I recall, it was 4th and short and Tulane had left their offense on the field until the last moment and then called a time out. I think there was concern of a fake so they did not put a man back and played loose to watch for the fake. It was not an intenet to go for a block.
