For those that do not think coaching makes a huge difference. AZ St Univ, ASU. 7-0 this year so far under Erickson & Co. Last year, I think 6-6 overall. Same kids, different outcome. Don't know the final outcome as they still must play USC, Cal. and Ore. I do know this. If they don't win, overall, this yr or next, Erickson & Co. will be gone. This must be the standard for SMU. ASU=no National Championships, No Heisman Trophies, A few WAC Championships, 1 PAC 10 Championship, No National awards named after an ASU player. SMU needs to get back in the game. Way, way to much history.

Dennis Erikson is one of the greatest college coaches ever and prob the best at turning around a program. Oregon State had not had a winning season in over 25 years and in his 3rd year, they went 11-1 and pounded Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. He also won at Washington State and Idaho. And now this year at ASU. And he likes to booze. I have a man crush on him.

Untrue. I think a kid has to have around 2.75 to get in. Not the highest in the world or even the state. UA is higher. But high enough. Erickson has no standards though. He will get ASU to a national champioship at some point. OR he will be fired.

again what the hell does a school's general policy on admission for the student body have to do with admission of athletes. NOTHING. You do realize that ASU admits anybody who can get in under NCAA regulations not the standards for the general student body.

According to Arizona's Compliance Director all Arizona schools let in just about anyone meeting minimum NCAA recruiting standards-but ASU may have a "better plan"

A top Arizona football recruit changed his verbal commitment to the Wildcats and instead chose Arizona State on Wednesday, saying he was "scared" of the UA's admissions process.
Arizona and Arizona State adhere to the same NCAA admissions policies. They play in the same conference, where there is little wiggle room for nonqualifiers, and are overseen by the same Board of Regents.
The schools' differences are subtle.
However, Peoria Centennial High School player Jarrell Barbour said ASU "has a better plan to get me in" academically.
UA compliance director Bill Morgan, who is not permitted to talk about specific recruits, said in general it is "pretty rare" for an incoming athlete to be accepted at ASU and not the UA.
Morgan said players have attended ASU instead of the UA for academic reasons before, but they were usually out-of-state junior college players.
In those cases, ASU accepted a junior college grade that the UA would not accept, Morgan said.
Morgan said incoming freshmen are typically given similar acceptance answers from the three state universities — the UA, ASU and Northern Arizona.
"I would be surprised if any in-state youngster who meets the NCAA's requirements … I would be hard-pressed to think he couldn't get into any of the three," Morgan said.

Stallion, do you really believe that public schools and private schools also operate under the same admission standards? I don't believe that UT and A&M have as strict rules as say Rice. Why don't you do a little research on that and tell me how the crow tastes.

I will help stallion out on this one and tell you, that UT and A&M could care less about what a top athlete does in school, just as long as they stay out of jail and go to class. You honestly believe that all those athletes at UT and A&M had to bother about admission crap. Man, go back to sleep! They have football players going to school.

bigdaddy, if you really believe that, then you need to pull your head out of the sand and start working on your tan.

Maybe we should do what Liberty University does. They've been loading up on 1-A transfers (including a 6-6, 260 lb. linebacker (Redd?) after he got kicked out of UVA for selling dope). They'll literally take anybody into their school if they can play football, by saying "well, we're Christians, we forgive people, everybody deserves a second chance, especially this 6-6, 260 lb. linebacker from UVA." That's how much Falwell wanted to win. If we can start emphasizing the "Methodist" part more, the possibilities are endless

Yes Methodist are EVEN more forgiving than Jerry Falwell-you might be on to something.
