North Dakota Fighting Sioux has settled ts mascot suit with the NCAA. The NCAA has given them 3 years to get tribal approval or retire the name. Sounds like a win to me.

That all depends upon the tribe's position on the issue.

I agree and right now the tribes are against it but who knows that the NCAA will even exist 3 years from now.

I don't see why Tribes would be against tasteful mascots. Without sports mascots Indians are pretty much forgotten outside of casinos, even though they live in some of the worst poverty in the country.

I remember reading an article a couple years back that said about 80% of the Native American population are in favor of tribal mascots. It's really a small majority that continue to raise a stink about it.

Maybe North Dakota should be known as the Fightin' Minority Casino Operators...

Does Notre Dame have to ask permission to use it's mascot too ?

The Highland Park Scots, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Houston Texans have popular ethnic mascots. If the Sioux don't want to inspire teams, then maybe the Aztecs or Zulus will go for it.
