This from the Dallas Morning News Blog based upon information from Coach Franchiones VIP e-mail scandal. Conclusion: Gibbs would consider a return to College Coaching for the right price
DAVIS: This brings up something few people are talking about. In the "VIP" e-mails obtained by The News, we got a full insight into how Darnell was brought to A&M. Franchione's assistant, Mike McKenzie, told subscribers that Franchione initially wanted to hire Cowboys assistant Gary Gibbs to replace Carl Torbush. Gibbs asked for $400,000, according to the e-mails. Franchione came back with an offer of $330,000 and a three-year contract.
"That would have made him the second-highest paid DC in the country known, just $3,333 short of the top," McKenzie wrote. Gibbs spent a day mulling it over and declined the offer. Later in the same VIP e-mail, McKenzie wrote, "As Fran said this afternoon, 'That was the only deciding factor – $70,000. We had no problem with anything else. It came down to salary.'"
