Great coverage in the paper this morning....Something I have not seen in a long time for something SMU related. All the writers were interesting and informative.
Front page with picture and 2 more near full pages inside with numerous articles, graphics, and pictures.
Timing was perfect by Orsini, the Cowboys were off and it looks like they gave all that extra space that would normally go to them to us.....
Very happy to see such solid coverage.

Great coverage in the paper this morning ...
That's because it's a "negative".

I don't think they took a negative slant on this thing at all. I was blown away that they gave 2 1/2 pages including the FRONT page to this story, and put alot of effort into the stories like getting quotes from James, Dickerson etc..
What else has SMU given them to write about besides losing?

Any PR is good PR at this point. We need to be in the conscience of the Dallasites and beyond. If we can follow up this news with a big hire and generate some excitement using our newfound marketing push, who knows where this could go?

I thought the overall coverage was a fairly positive look at the program going forward.

I was very encouraged by the general consensus of the articles implying that everyone in charge knows it really is time to "Pony Up".

Why would anyone be surprised? It's negative - the coach lost his job - obviously a big spread that was laid out months weeks/months ago - Coaches who failed, horrible won-loss records and a rehashing of the woes. This rag will do the same for the new hire and then turn things back over to the SMU beat writer (who probably moonlights as the editor of the Hillcrest Hurricane) and we'll be back to our place on page 7 between the slimfast advertisement and the cremation ad.

It was negative for PB, but it certainly wasn't negative for SMU, and I am still shocked that it made the front page plus another 1 1/2. If you will recall, when PB was
hired he got the same amount of coverage if not more.
I repeat, what other news have they had to report lately besides another loss.

Excellent timing by Orsini. He's a genius.
I think this also proves that there is a lot of pent-up support--call it the silent majority--still wanting to support this program. This group just needs some proof that things are going in the right direction.

Yes thank you. Seems like someone has to get fired or a program get dropped before you see anything, but I'll take it where we can get it.

Also helps that the Cowboys had a bye.
