i realize we have yet to hire one of these "big name" coaches,
but if we do hire a Gary Barnett, Terry Bowden, Rick Neuheisel, ect

whats changed?

smu is still horrible.
we've only won one game this year!

last time we were discussing Phill Bennett & Charlie Waters
this time it seems there is quite a step up as far as who we may hire

why is that?....again.....whats changed?

is it orsini?....does orsini just have alot higher expectations
than copeland ever did?......have big donors quietly given
the green light because they are sick of losing more than ever?
........what gives?

i tend to think orsini is the difference.

The price of Oil for one

the fact the school has decided to make a commitment to division 1

People like Ford sick and tired of seeing their investment not being used to its potential

Expectations from the fans and Alumni

Pony Up!!!

Yeah, it is quite a bit different than last time, even if a coach hasn't been hired yet. Anyone of those three names, would be a huge leap.

I am sure Mr. Orsini is a very big reason!!!

I think our alumni is sick and tired of our football and basketball teams being mediocre at best, so they higher an aggressvie AD, Orsini, to clean house and put us back on the map.

No doubt Mob Boss Orsini, is a major player! I like what Orsini said on Monday, with a cement shoes stare he said "we're not blowing smoke here!"

we're going to hire someone who knows what they're doing. not someone who thinks they know what they're doing
I think our alumni is sick and tired of our football and basketball teams being mediocre at best, so they higher an aggressvie AD, Orsini, to clean house and put us back on the map.
...................That is correct.....Our leaders have finally realized it and are demanding changes. They are willing to spend the money and make changes to get a quality program here. The key in football will be better recruiting and getting a Coach who can develope a program that good players believe in and want to play for.

Hopefully the next coach hasn't forgotten as much football as PB evidently did!

It might not be a stretch to say that any of these candidates have forgotten more football than PB ever new!

Please let the "football amnesia" of SMU Football Coaches end and the era of a coach that will razzle and dazzle come gain with his experience and great understanding of the game.

Sorry, I don't remember what you are talking about.

Actually Insane, that is a very good question. Here is my take on it.

PB was hired from a K-State program where well over half the team came from the non-traditional HS route (JCs/CCs/Prep school type players).

When PB was hired, he admitted the cupboard was bare, yet he made no aggressive attempt to fill the team (even temporarily) with JCs. At the time he said he wanted to do it 'the right way', I personally thought he was deflecting a model problem.

The rest is history. We lost early and often, SMU on the field and PB with his recruiting momentum.

So we now flash forward to today. SMU has glaring weaknesses throughout the team. LB, OL/DL, an experienced QB if Willis goes down, you name the position and this team needs help.

So will our new FB coach, knowing how PB's career was harmed by not winning early, will he be allowed to aggressively go after JCs?

That will be the most telling sign that SMU has finally 'gotten it' and wants to be competitve.

We shall see.
