On a side note, i got a call last night that the latest name to be interested in the SMU job is Dirk Koetter. He would be a good fit in Dallas and for the conference.

He did a great job at Boise State and a pretty bad job at Arizona State, especially when you see what my friend and drinking buddy, Dennis Erickson has done at ASU. Still, he is young and prob learned a lot from his mistakes at ASU. Good recruiter, very personable, great offensive mind.

He'd be a solid candidate for the job.

By the time he was fired at ASU there were fewer fans in Sun Devil Stadium than at Ford. The demand that he be fired was deafening. It even looked worse when the stadium holds about 75,000 people.

Dirk Koetter's biggest sin was he totally messed up the quarterback position at Arizona State his last year. If you want to read about it, you can here:

Still, the guy did win seven games that year. Every team he lost to went bowling.

You're not going to get a BIG NAME at SMU w/o some negatives. Just forget it. Koetter is typical. Great success at Boise somewhat of a failed bit at ASU. Fits perfectly into our imperfect group. Lack of an Texas ties or experence in recruiting is somewhat of a negative. Don't think his resume matches Barnett who has the best qualifications of all the candidates.

He was at Arizona State for 6 years, certainly he recruited Texas during that time?

Nobody knows the complete list, if there is one? Orsini had his guy when he was hired. This is all just procedure. We need someone with Texas ties, better yet from Texas. Bring in someone without Texas knowledge and the recruiting process will get worse than what it has been.

NO. His biggest sin was not winning. ASU is a school that expects to win and be in a BCS bowl game every year. As in Dallas we have a pro team also, but forgot the name. Dirk just could not cut it. I don't remember the pre-PAC 10 schools they played and don't want to look them up. It's probably is something like NM ST. NAU, and some WAC/MW teams. Kellers transfer was just about the final straw. There are are 2 Bowl games played in Phoenix/Tempe. Fiesta and Insight .Com. They ended up getting trounced in the Hawaii Bowl. He had been fired by that time. Erickson has taken the same team to 8-1 and will probably beat USC on Thanksgiving day at Sun Devil Stadium. Next yr. I would not bet against them being National Champion. Dirks time at ASU was in question for some time even before the Keller transfer. As for them going to a bowl, I think 7 out of 10 get to go bowling. On that same note. It helps the college team if the Pro team is losing. We have no problem there. Back in the early 80's SMU was winning and Dallas was losing. That helped SMU's attendance. So to end this. Don't go near Dirk.

1)There is not a single Coach on SMU's list that hasn't been fired for poor on-field performance at some school, 2) quality BCS Coaches do not take non-BCS jobs PERIOD 3) you are essentially saying SMU should steal a non-BCS Coach who has had success or go with an UNPROVEN assistant or Division 1-AA Head Coach. 4) Most SMU fans want proven success as a Head Coach which limits our search to Head oaches with non-BCS schools who have enjoyed greater success than those on our list. I suggest there are none that are interested or that fit, Who do you suggest?

Rather than use the word "quality" I expect Stallion meant "blemish-free."
