Orsini show him the door tonight-

Why does he deserve our respect?

These demoralizing losses are mounting and will make it harder on our next coach
Let's end the Phil Bennett Era already

Enough is Enough

whatever, the guy is gone. do we really need vince lombardi to beat rice? just make a play instead of letting rice march up and down the field at will in the 4th quarter.

cant really say you can put this loss on PBs shoulders...id fault the players, they just seem to let their guard down and quit in the end....the team that wanted it more won...

that plain, that simple

This is a REGULAR occurance with PB's teams. The offensive playcalling on the last drive was QUESTIONABLE at best! The defense isn't the only area of blame for these losses. The offense has NOT been getting the job done in the 4th quarter. Rusty gets WAY too CONSERVATIVE when we are ahead late in the game. Get that last 1st down with 2:50 left on the clock and we run it out. So what is the call? A long pass with a very low probability of completion rather than a 10 yarder that might have a chance of keeping the drive going. Of course, the first two calls on that series weren't much better. The offense had to keep that drive going because it is patently obvious that our defense is ABSOLUTELY worthless especially in the 4th quarter!

Blame it on the fact that no one on our defense should be playing Div. 1 football.

When you are playing former wide receivers at DB and especially LB you know you have a problem. Bennett's woeful recruiting on defense during his tenure is the primary problem.

I actually admire Phil Bennett more today than just about any time during his tenure. He keeps getting his team ready to play over the last 4 weeks when there was every excuse on his part and the players part to just to lay down. Each week seems more improbable than the next for SMU to play hard. There is not a person on this site who would have expected a victory today if we had known of all the players who were out this week. We were too busy trying to pick the next coach to notice that SMU was fielding a second string defense this week. I think I'm correct that two starters made it out of this game who were expected to start at the beginning of the season. Throw Hawkins back in if you want but hadn't he already lost his starting job? This has been a tough year no doubt-a couple of players here and there-a couple of ticks there and SMU is 5-4 on track for a bowl. 3 losses on the last play another at the 1 yard line for all intents and purposes. Tough year. We are not as good as everybody thought but we not as bad as some think either at least in this conference.

I had some lady get mad at me for yelling that Bennett should not come back tomorrow. I was close enough to where hopefully he could hear.

I personally give the coaching staff and team credit for not quitting under some very difficult circumstances.

Heard a lot of FR names being called out there today...Fleps, Sowe, Thomas and Dollens in addition to those who have already been contributing (Smart, Yenga, Jones, Robinson, Fleming) I'll have to check to see if Butler is a FR or Soph...but this bunch is hanging tough with a LOT of young guys playing. Can only help prepare them for next year and beyond.

That was a typical Burns call no matter what quarter. Heave it long with one guy going deep. But we usually call that on 3rd and 2. What bothered be about the play even more, was that Sanders wasn't even on the field for that play??? :?: :?: :?:

And Jim Gush shouldn't be coaching Div. 1 football
