yeah let's pick the 3 worst candidates for the job(except for Graham) and make them our frontrunners. If there is a thread of truth to this I guess my work is not yet done and I will lay into these morons for years to come. Give me Nutt among these mistakes. I can not wait to lay into the first Paul Johnson recruiting class and I will revel in saying I told you so when he falls flat on his face.

I think the guy is Nutt's agent. I don't think Johnson is coming here, but unlike Stallion, I would not be as negative about it. Johnson took a Navy squad that was horrid in 2001, so horrid in fact that SMU was an overwhealming favorite to beat them in his inaugural game. They dominated us the entire game. Blame it on bad coaching by Bennett if you want, but Johnson clearly came in knowing what he needed to do and did it and has done it every year at Navy which arguably has as many recruiting handicaps as we have. Remember, their players have a little thing called a military committment after they graduate. In a time of an unpopular war, that is not a great selling point. Well, yea, you might have to go to Iraq, but at least you'd be on a ship unless, of course, they put you in the Marines.

You may not like Johnson and he may not be the flashy hire but how many coaches have won at Navy and made them competitive every year? He "can"coach and with little talent.
I can not wait to lay into the first Paul Johnson recruiting class and I will revel in saying I told you so when he falls flat on his face.
.................One thing I can assure you is Coach Johnson is a winner. He is a great coach who has won everywhere he has been. Whether or not he is interested in SMU, I don't know. His system might not be perfect for SMU but no way he would fall "flat on his face" here.... Have you seen some of his teams play ? I know you know football and though you may not like what he runs, you have to be impressed with how prepared his teams are...........Still I remain hopeful in Terry Bowden's choice. Bowden is such a great modivator and his football knowledge, connections, media relations would be so great for recruiting. He could recruit top 50 easy by signing date 09 and as Orsini says, Top 25 in recruiting would not be out of the question. I think he would put together a great coaching staff and the team would be well prepared.

He will fall flat on his face because just like Phil Bennett the type of player he will have to recruit is not the type he has the ability to recruit. Once again SMU will have hired the wrong guy for wrong job because it doesn't understand the requisites of the job. Crowds of 5,000 await the "Flying Wishbone"

Guys that want to play QB in the NFL will not come to SMU under a wishbone offense. I don't care if you say that he'll plug in some passing. Players and fans, want to see a team throw the ball. Period. A Dennis Dixon or Pat White or Tim Tebow ain't coming to play for Paul Johnson. Period.

How many teams has Johnson coached where he could air it out and win? And when have we ever been able to get a top qb to come here? Let's be a little realistic. Do we want to be competitive or do we want to develop pro qb's? I'll take Johnson -why, because he finds ways to "win".

we do get pro qb's, they just transfer (ala McCown)
i'll take wins and bowl games over pro-qbs!
