Are Texas connections a must??

Quick question:
I didn't notice anywhere in our official HC opening post whether Texas ties are required. Do we need a coach with Texas ties?? Doherty had none, and he is recruiting nationwide, but BB and FB recruiting are different beasts.
These names that we keep hearing (Johnson, Barnett, Bowden, Marriucci, Nutt, et al) have no connection to Texas so would it be tough for them to recruit here? Or do they just hire asst.'s to do that??
Gill, Fran seem like they could hit the ground running in the state.
Any ideas??

I think being from Texas should hurt a coach in the application process. The key is to be Nationaly Recognizable.

Texas ties can be overrated. While they can be a plus, i tend to believe a good recruiter can recruit anywhere. You can use staff to make up for a lack of Texas ties.

Handlebar mustache and a brother who looks like Luigi...not a must, but a strong bonus!

Twin sons who are D-1 recruits, preferably LB and DE would sweeten the deal!!

I think talent evaluation and knowing where to look are musts. Texas ties are a nice to have, but one of the least important factors. Having a reputation for turning around programs and winning are keys.

Tubbs and Bennett knew Texas pretty well, didn't do much for them. If the coach is recognizable, the kids will deign to give him an audience.
