that our new coach is Houston Nutt, are you going to be pissed like me? I have heard from some fairly good sources (HA!!), no, but seriously folks...I have heard some strong Nutt indicators??!? Hold on to your hats...if it is NOT Nutt, I will bleach Stallions sheets.

I think a lot of people are missing a huge point. Has Houston Nutt done a less than great job at Arkansas....YES. However, we are not asking him to win the SEC and finish in the top 10 every year. We are asking him to go 8-4 (to start) and win Conference USA. He can do that. A perfect example is Ron Zook. He was in over his head at Flordia, a place where you need to be perfect, but is doing an outstanding job at Illinois. At Illinois, they want him to win 7 games a year and every 5 years, maybe win or finish in the top 2 in the Big 10. He can do that there. Just because a coach was not able to to Arkansas to the national title or win SEC titles does not mean he could not take SMU to a bowl game.

I have not heard much about him other than he may be a little off kilter. He might be an OK coach or even a good coach. There is more at stake than just being a good coach. SMU, as stated by others, also needs to make a statement with this hire. Someone that people say, THEY ARE REALLY SERIOUS ABOUT THIS. Could be a Bowden, Mariucci, Willingham type hire. Again (sorry to repeat) like ASU did with Erickson. SMU does not have the luxury of gambling. A big hire means big expectations, big crowds and big $. If more $ is needed then some of those that have it should put it up. If SMU were to make a BIG HIRE I would read about it here in PHX. If it's Nutt I may find it in some small spot on the sports page. SMU's search is getting some attention. If they go for the gold the will get immediate nationwide attention.

You are incorrect. Houston Nutt would be great here. He has some inroads in the state as far as recruiting and he's also a pretty good coach.
Of course, Arkansas is down right now in a very difficult SEC but he would work miracles here.
They are 6-4 this year which is not up to SEC standards but come on. It's not like the guy is under .500 and you just can't be at the top every single year in the SEC. Arkansas is going through a downswing but that doesn't discount Nutt's ability to coach.

OK he has some inroads in Texas. But when I tell the guy's I hang around with who SMU hired and I say Houston Nutt, I can hear them laughing now. SMU should recruit nationally. Most people HAVE heard of SMU outside of Texas. Actually I don't think most people think of Texas when they hear of SMU. When people hear of ND do they think of Indiana, Duke, NC, no. They see CJ all the time, most have heard of the good years. Why is this such a big deal? Does NM, AZ, Calif. LA, NY, SD, Mont. Colo. etc. not have good players. I'm sure some players want to stay close to home. I'm also sure some players would like to get as far away from home as possable. If I were to say SMU hired Terry Bowden, nobody would laugh or say WHO?

Well, he sure knows how to give the horns down with authority. I think that should be a top quality we look for in our next head coach.

Agree. if SMU wants to stay in CUSA and win now and then hire Dirk Koetter. If they can dominate CUSA and move into the national spotlight again they can move to a better conference. They can expand the stadium. I think it was built to be enlarged to around 45,000. I think the Pack 10 requires 40,000. I hope the powers that be have some understanding that this can not be an ok coach. If that is all that they want give PB an extension. I think the Univ. of AZ has around a 50,000 seat stadium. ASU around 75,000. I do think they will end up with a Bowden or someone of his/their stature.

One more comment, at least for now. Someone must have done a great sales job to get SMU on national TV so much this yr. Something like 8-9x. Maybe that person should be in charge of recruiting. They should be given a raise.

True that or that. Off work and trying to add my two cents. Well it's 3:48 AM in PHX.
So here is something I heard. Nothing to do with SMU. Just to talk.
I have decided to stop drinking any more.

But am not going to drink any less.

Arkansas does NOT want to fire Nutt due to the HUGE buy-out..they want him to quit. So...."hey SMU, have we got a deal for you..." I undersatnd that SMU would get Nutt and some "cash" (wink wink) if we take Nutt...lord only knows we need a little cash infusion to pour through our athletic dept...what's the bottom line like these days? How much short are we on Crum / Scoreboard? makes sense to me...Houston Nutt, a .500 SEC coach who would be a wild eyed savior at SMU (cough cough).

Come on guys, we could do worse than Nutt.
