did a little check on the history of Kragthorpe's staff in recruiting Texas. first of all very few of his staff came from Tulsa to Louisville. The AD brokered a deal in which Kragthorpe retained half of Petrino's staff.

The OC Charlie Stubbs is a Krapthorpe guy but he is not too popular with the Louisville Fans or a segment of the Tulsa fans. Stubbs has a long term experience as an OC at big time programs. He's put up good numbers its hard to understand the anger toward him.

The most interesting Coach from a recruiting perspective would be Tony Alford who was hired off the Iowa St staff last year. Alford already has a commitment from a Garland recruit and a highly recruited LM from South Texas named Mario Benavides(switched commitments from Miss to Tech to Louisville. At iowa st. he seemed to concentrate his recruiting efforts in the DFW Metroplex and Texas. Was the producing recruiter for several good Texas prospects about 6 recruits from DFW in 2 years so if he came to SMU he could hit the road running in the Metroplex. ALSO he is the recruiter for CYRUS GRAY at DeSoto and wrangled a December official visit from Gray so that's a darn good sign.

Another Kragthorp guy is Mark Nelson formerly an assistant at Baylor but his recruiting record is a little less clear.

Several of Kragthorpe's guys remained at Tulsa under Graham but I'm not sure if they could be gotten with an increased assistant Coaching payroll.

Probably the Top recruiter on Tulsa's staff right now is recruiting coordinator Matt Wells a holdover from Kragthorpe's staff who in 2006 had 8 commitments by himself including Ennis QB Clark Harrell.

I really like what Tulsa is doing with their assistant Coaches-this is a young agressive group which are probably among the youngest in NCAA History. I never felt comfortable with the SMU Coaching Staff-ever especially since the UT Coach left for UH. SMU might want to look into getting a couple of young agressive coaches with DFW connections to really hit the Metroplex recruiting. Guys like the Cedar Hill Coach Joey McGuire and Justin's High School Coach at Denton Ryan Joey Florence. Just some names of young agressive successful type guys-I'm sure there are others who could open some doord in DFW. I want some guys that can really relate to 18 year olds and aren't willing to accept No.

I like the guy, but let's hope the area high school coaches don't put a letter together asking us to hire him.

Stallion did you see that mess of assistants at UL. Two of Brain Brohms brothers are on the staff. One of them is the assistant head coach. I wonder where that is going? Charlie Stubbs was the QB's coach or offensive coordinater under Lavell Edwards when BYU won the national championship. Coach K and HIS staff would be great for SMU. Bring on Charlie Stubbs. He loves to throw the ball. At TU his tightend was one of the leading receivers in the nation. I think Coach K can get the rest of his staff from TU. Graham is an [deleted].

What is your impression of Joey Florence? He's almost had as much as Todd Dodge especially in the passing game. Recruiting is the name of the game. As for Stubbs I'm not sure its the same guy. Stallion, Osacar Giles was the SMU coach that left for Houston, I think he is back at Texas now.

Yeah recruiting fell off the day he left the staff.

I am telling you rivals is too young. Charlie Stubbs is old. He dates back to BYU and the national championship with Lavell Edwards. He is one of the inventors of the spread offense. I believe the QB for the Bears during their hayday, Steve young and several others learned under Stubbs.

Joey is one of the brightest minds in HS football history. Owns the highest winning percentage in the history of Texas HS football. He would be great. Keller High HC is another. Hebron HC, Trinity HC, Abilene High HC. I could go on forever. Stallion I will tell you this. Most of these guys are high school HC's for a reason, whether it be family, knowledge, or whatever. This is the reason Dodge is at UNT. This is a good start for him. Not ready for the bigger jobs. His staff has already put a cloud over his program at UNT.

Yeah I caught the BYU connection-see above. i believe the best staffs combine experience and agressive young Coaches who can relate with the 18 year old. I agree it would take an exceptional high school Coach but there are some that could be real assets like Florence. Todd Dodge has put up bigger numbers than SMU in Offense this year. No. 42 in Total Offense with a players recruited to run the option. His defensive Coaches seem out of their league. You start these guys at WR Coach or DB Coach with experienced Coordinators and let em learn. Heck SMU has been signing Coaches with a heck of a lot less success and experience than a guy like Florence.

Stubbs' offense at Louisville is in the top 10 nationally. He would be a great catch along with Kragthorpe. The defense at Louisville is due to Louisville's failure this year, ranked around #100 and coached by the former Petrino DC, Mike Cassity.

In all honesty there is nothing shady going on here. The entire Brohm family has been highly involved in Louisville Football since the '60s when Oscar Brohm (Brian's dad) was our QB. Jeff also played QB for us in the early 90's. After a 6-year NFL career as a backup he returned home to Louisville. Jeff was offered the Offensive Coordinator Job at Alabama this spring when Nick Saban was forming his staff. Jeff turned it down to stay with his brother through his senior year. Greg, the other brother, is also a former player. He is now the "Director of Football Operations" a job he took after Brian had already been playing here. I know that having family on the staff can often look a like something that is not on the up and up is happening, but in this case it is legit.

It is true that the defense was the source of our problems at the beginning of the season, but our defense has greatly improved over the last 4-5 games.

Lately Stubbs offense has been stagnant. It's true that the defense lost a lot of players from our Orange Bowl team last year, but the offense remained very much intact. Stubbs managed to score just 17 vs UCONN - last year we laid 48 on them with the same players. Here are some more comparasons Pitt: Last year: 48 - This year: 24. USF: Last year: 31 This year: 17. The general consensus is that ole' Charlie Stubbs is past his prime.

The possibility of something being shady always exsist when nepotism is involved. Brian Brohm was one of the leading candidates for the heisman when the season began. Not even on the radar now. UL was ranked in the top 10 at the beginning of the season. Ranking now is unknown. The involvment of the Brohm family since the 60's tells me that they carry a lot of weight with this football program and there are some pissed off people at the UL that believe Coach K ruined Brians season, draft status and possibly his psyche. I am surprised Coach K is still there, but I am more shocked that he walked into a situation like this. At UL of all places, a BB school?
