Good...as of 11/20 SMU has not contacted either Kragthorpe or his AD. If the announcement is supposed to take place Sunday, that doesn't leave much time for working out the details of a contract. Welcome to SMU Fran. :D

If that happens, then we are toast.

I'm aware of that, but it doesn't fit into the theme of my post. :D

i think the interesting part is the department is talking about it:

"University of Louisville sports information director Rocco Gasparro tells WHAS11’s Kyle Draper that there is a fifty-fifty chance that Kragthorpe would leave Louisville for the vacant head-coaching job at Southern Methodist University. "

I tell you what...if Kragthorpe turns out to be the coach announced by Orsini, I'll never believe another thing Orsini says. He stated that we were going to hire the best coach available. With all the coaches out there that are available, there is no way Kragthorpe is the best available. Relatively speaking, he is only marginally better than PB. He has been a BCS coach for one year and evidently can't hack it. SMU is having a hard time getting any high profile recruits to look at us because of our status as a perennial loser program. Only a WOW type coach is going to get us serious looks from those high profile recruits and Kragthorpe isn't one of those WOW type names.

It doesn't matter who the next coach is, it is going to take a few years to build the talent level depth up to a level that will allow us to dominate and make strides to top 25 status. Did Tulsa ever reach that level? C-USA title sure, but top 25? Get real, Kragthorpe is not going to propel us to that level. I truly hope this whole thing with Kragthorpe is just BS, because right now I am livid at the thought of it.

I don't think K is it either, at least I hope not. He is marginally better than PB, but what is the media and fan response to SMU hiring a one-year coach with a probable losing record, even in a BCS conference?

I think we need to pay attention to Stallion on this one (and Orsini needs to pay attention to Stallion as well). I don't have time to research these issues, but Stallion apparently does. K was not the true success behind the Tulsa program. Stallion made an impressive case that PB wasn't a great DC before he came here.

One thing Orsini promised in the DMN chat to my question of "baggage" that candidates bring is that he will dig down deep to examine those issues.

I hope he digs deep to examine the coaching and recruiting issues, also.

K does not equal "wow."

Didn't Dwan say this was a done deal and that it would be a Doherty-type hire? Kragthorpe is not a Doherty-type hire.

Oh, and Sunshine Pony, with your obvious support and perpetuation of the Kragthorpe to SMU rumor...Do you actually think he is the guy SMU should bring in? Is this a WOW hire in your opinion? Since you are "on the inside" about Kragthorpe, what makes him so appealing to Orsini & Co.?
