... I'm sure he won't clue us in as to the new coach, but his comments should be interesting.

He may be dizzy from the all spinning he does.

Steve says that firing Bennett early allowed SMU to get in "deep" with some of their candidates. SMU is going to take their time to identify the next coach to make sure that they get it right. In other words, he is optimistic about finding a candidate, but don't expect an announcement soon just like Scoops prognosticated earlier.

Steve is either really good at the bluff, or he doesn't have his guy yet. Could be either, but I'm not holding my breath for an announcement on Monday or Tuesday after hearing that interview.

All coach-speak, no substance in the interview. We've learned nothing.

Nothing of substance was revealed. Did you guys expect any different? I still think the coach will be named sometime next week.

we'd better hope so. If this deal isn't done, we can probably kiss another recruiting year goodbye. We can't afford to miss out on at least a shot at the few guys that might be left out there who can help improve this team

Remember Myrdel, this is the same lousy referee crew that failed to call that receiver for a personal foul on McCann. You are WAY to trusting that the correct call would be made by this crew!

Wrong thread but I say again, he would have spiked it and kicked a field goal, regardless of what Swann said.

Question: Well, uh, you made the decision with 4 weeks left in the regular season. What has that done as far as the coach search goes to get you a jumpstart on the search for a new coach.

Orsini: You know, Bill, we’re right on course as we hoped we would be. Uh, what it allowed us to do was get in deep with some of our top candidates early, way before anyone else could, and we’re still on track to, along that plan.

Question: Well, what are you looking at now from a, from a timetable standpoint, because now we’re seeing a lot of openings across the country, a lot of decisions being made on coaches right now. What do you think, uh, best laid plans right now as far, uh, as a timeframe is concerned?

Orsini: Well I always thought, uh, the end of the regular season is a key time for us to, uh, to see what the market’s doing and then make a move, and so I think we’re on that path, however we’re going to take our time to find the right person. We’re in this for the long run because whoever this next coach is, we hope it’s the one that’ll get us to the next level and keep us at the next level.

Question: You’ve talked a little about this football program and where it is right now. We’ve seen in the first half of this game, and the games that we’ve televised this season, there is some exciting young players on this team. There is some real hope for this football program.

Orsini: You know, and that’s been noticed around the whole, uh, coaching ranks all around the nation and I’m really pleased with the interest that has been shown in the coaching ranks on a national basis in SMU football.
