Lots of talk about Fran lately. He did beat UT twice in a row.

Hate to say it, but we could do MUCH worse than Fran.

From Wikpedia....
Dan McCarney (born July 28, 1953, in Iowa City, Iowa) was the head football coach at Iowa State University from 1995-2006. He was the longest tenured head coach in the Big 12 Conference when he stepped down November 8, 2006[1]. He led the Cyclones to five bowl games, more than any other Iowa State coach in history. Coach McCarney molded the Cyclones into a respectable, mid-level Big 12 football team, despite having the smallest football budget in the Big 12. On February 6, 2007, McCarney accepted a position as the Defensive Line Coach and Assistant Head Coach at the University of South Florida[2].
Before taking over the head coaching position at Iowa State, McCarney played at the University of Iowa from 1972-1974 and was named team captain in 1974. McCarney was an assistant coach at Iowa from 1977-1989 and the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at the University of Wisconsin-Madison under Barry Alvarez from 1990-1994.

If SMU's looking at McCarney, I hope Steve Logan's is also in the running. He's the winingest HC in ECU history and current BC OC. I'm sure he's a part of the reason Matt Ryan is in the running for the Heisman.

I konw who Dan McCarney is. the question was more directed at him being discussed for the SMU job. when did this come about?
I don't know who said that we were making a WOW hire, but that certainly wouldn't be one from the name equity side of the equation. he can coach, but will he draw the necessary attention to the program on day 1?

Not that it matters to the powers to be, but if it is Fran that may be it for me with the ponies.
I have been a season ticket holder since 1990, in the Mustang Club for years, given dontations when asked (including this year for the Crum Center), have season basketball tickets, etc. but if it is Fran my money will probably be directed elsewhere. I may still attend a few games, but probably no more investment.
He tries to hide it, but he is not a good person and has a past that should eliminate him under Turner's previous comments about not wanting people with baggage. There is more to just the letter at A & M, and there is more to how he left Alabama and the things he tried to pull things there to skirt the NCAA.
Hope we can do much better than him.

Fran is a great recruiter. He is not perfect but he is not satan either. He has shown that he can win. It would make the TCU game a real rivalry. Fran is going to get a good job somewhere. I wouldn't be upset if he came here. He is tons better than what we have had.

That's the funny thing, Orsini or anyone at SMU never said this, it was reported on one of those rumor sites that SMU was going to hire a "WOW" coach....
This like the Bowden talk has been run into the ground.....
