I don't know if the administration would go for him. He certainly has a more dubious past than anyone else mentioned based on the fact that he was an assistant here during the dp years.

I don't know much about Bower, but Southern Miss has a tradition built on getting the players who can't get into Alabama, etc. Not exactly the guys who could cut it academically at SMU.

there has to be more to this story. My guess is that Bower (who is not well paid by even CUSA standards) could have been approached by Ole Miss or someone else in the region and perhaps he went to his boss with an ultimatum...new contract, competitive salary...or I walk.

In 17 yrs at USM, this guy has had 14 winning seasons, including 5 CUSA Championships; 3 times CUSA "Coach of the Year"; was "Coach of the Decade" in the '90's and went to 9 Bowl games, winning 5 of those.

Would love to see him at Ole Miss.

My guess is that Nix, the D-Coordinator at S.C for Spurrier and formerly DC for Bowers at USM, returns to his alma mater as head coach.

I've seen him beat Alabama on Homecoming. One thing you can say for his teams - at least the ones I've seen - is that they play HARD. Some might say dirty, but they are balls to the wall.
