Another good prospect we missed out on...

...by waiting 'til this year to fire and hire. I know he doesn't meet the high, high standards of this group. However, Derek Dooley would have been an execellent choice for SMU. As it was...

"On December 17, 2006, Dooley was hired as the new head coach at Louisiana Tech University. He replaces former coach Jack Bicknell, who was fired on December 4 after the Bulldogs finished 3-10 in 2006."

This young man was the class of Cavan's coaches.

Cavan couldn't coach his way out of a box. He bass-fished his way through North & East Texas and back to Georgia. I hate that the model [deleted] him over. But he was not a particularly good coach, and he flat gave up. For all Bennett's failure, he didn't give up.

Cavan aside, Dooley was (and I assume still is) a great guy. I wish him nothing but success and would love to eventually see him at SMU, though it isn't likely.

Two things.

First, Bennett didnt give up? That timing on the go for it move saturday because we "were tired" was as close as you can get to giving up. HERE, its OT, you get the ball back on the 25, and ill take ZERO points. PB should have been waving an ENORMOUS white flag and just plain forfeited at that point.

Second, and I should have quoted the post following the one above..NO MORE talk about coaches being good guys or great guys or classy guys ETC. Our new coach will be judged ONLY by WINS and LOSSES. Coming to SMU and being nice will NO LONGER CUT IT. let's win some damn football games!!!

I would cheer on a team lead by Satan himself if we were going bowling every year. I would also cheer on a team lead by Fidel Castro if the bearded freak could take us bowling every year. So as long as we are going to a freaking bowl game and not sucking like we have since the death penalty I do not care who the coach is.

Dooley was not a good coach when he was at SMU. I played on the team then. He may have improved since his SMU days though.
