I like Bower as a coach, but honestly don't think his name resonates with local recruits.
Also he did get the added benefit at USM of having academic standards slightly above University of Phoenix.

Jeff Bower was on Bobby Collin's staff that landed SMU the death penalty. We are more likely to hire OJ Simpson as SMU Chaplain.

i have a friend who's housekeeper also cleans up the chapel on campus. he told me he saw OJ meeting with Turner last Wed. afternoon.

I think Bower would be good, but his hiring would bring up all those death penalty stories and how he was on the staff here. On the other hand, a guy like Craig James might be able to lobby hard for him. But not a wow hire. More of a "well we could have done worse".

Collins may have brought on the death penalty but he also led SMU to our greatest era of national prominence. I have no problem with Bower.

I agree about fan excitement. But I can read 10 bowls in 11 years...that sounds better.
