SMU will hire a good coach, probably a Wow coach, but at a minimum a good coach. To the Chicken Littles (and there are so many of you), you apparently haven't noticed the gargantuan differences in talent, charisma and drive between Copeland and Orsini, I ask you to look at the most recent hires made by the two AD's for revenue sports:

Orsini: O'Leary & Doherty
Copeland: Dement, Cavan, Bennett and Tubbs

For those familiar with Randy Galloway's "Trust in Big Bill" catch phrase, I reccomend that you trust in Big O.

I think a very good AD will keep it only to himself and that is the way it should be whether you agree or disagree.

But it has been very entertaining on this board.

i honestly think the only reason there arent any GOOD/STRONG/RELIABLE leads/rumors is because Orisini didnt get the guy he wanted...now hes scrambling to find THE BEST out there...im sure he knows Bowden/Barnett want the job but why just go after a coach right away just because he wants to get back in the coaching game.

Orsini's making the right move by waiting until the end of the regular season to see who all is available...we'll know soon. call it a xmas present because come december, we'll finally have a new head coach!

An alternative explaination is that the Big O has his guy, has had him for a while, and both fellows are classy enough to not leak the news while our soon to be HC is coaching another team.

All of this speculation and innuendo gives me a headache, first, then a chuckle.

I do believe that our new HC and staff will be a marked improvement over the past regime.

There's no need to panic at this point with the paltry amount of information that is available. Panic once the new coach is announced and if that person is revealed to be an unmitigated, incompetent disaster. Until then, we are all worrying about something we have absolutely no control over.

Has anyone read some tea leaves lately? Maybe the answer is there.

The psychology on this board has been an education in itself.

So, leaving everything in limbo for a month was intentional? Seriously, we fired the former coach at the earliest possible moment (as soon as we were eliminated from Bowl eligibility, voiding the last year of his contract) knowing that the replacement couldnt be named for over a month? Knowing that there would be no one recruiting for SMU for a month? Knowing that no one would be running the team, basically? SMU did that intentionally? That's what you are asking me to believe?

I just got off the Tollway and Major Applewhite is working the Mockingbird exit tollbooth. Is it a bad sign that I had to tell him what change to give me for my dollar?

One of Orsini's last hires could very well be his next hire. It fits with the rumor of Orsini's statement that the coach is still coaching and that is why no announcement has been made. They know each other well and an agreement was made, probably before PB was even fired. Arguing whether SMU is a more attractive HC position that all of the various other open HC positions has some merit if Orsini fired PB without a pre-arranged deal with the new HC and intended to compete for head coaches but based on Orsini's MO, reputation, etc. my gut tells me he has his man and its OLeary. UCF is playing Sat at 2 pm. For the sake of recruiting, I hope the announcement is made after Sat's game and not after UCF's bowl game.

You should have gotten him to change one of those $1,000,000 bills that the guy in Georgia tried to deposit today. He probably would have done it.
