Virginia Tech sues itself for leaving Big East

Virginia Tech mistakenly joined four Big East schools today in suing itself for leaving the Big East conference for the ACC. The lawsuit is similar to the one the school brought in conjunction with other universities two weeks ago when the ACC offered membership to Boston College, Miami and Syracuse.
The lawsuit is thought to be the first time a university has sued itself.

“Our legal department got a little confused with the ACC’s latest invitation to us and Miami,” said Charles Steger, Virginia Tech’s president. “They thought our first objection a few weeks ago was based on principle, not on greed, which is an understandable mistake.”

Steger said the university will withdraw from the lawsuit after the difference is explained to its attorneys.
