i actually now would like the paul johnson hire. we would receive a lot of positive press due to the fact that he has done an outstanding job in Annapolis. if he comes here with that offense, i hope we hire a magician to fix the defense.

The guy has no ability to recruit...If we get Johnson we're screwed.......The only reason some of you guys like Johnson is he beat Notre Dame on what has turned out to be their worst year ever..........Bowden, Bowden, Bowden

I am sold on Johnson as a coach, just concerned about recruiting.

Also, anything or anyone Turner tries to sell...I am NOT a buyer.

Several said they love to have PJ as a coach if Fatterson ever left. Glowing reviews, with lots of "why on earth would he leave Navy for SMU?" thrown in for good measure.

snippets for the lazy:

He could very easily hold out for a darn good BCS job. I am a bit surprised Nebraska has not considered Paul Johnson. Paul Johnson is a darn good coach that I would like having on the TCU sideline if GP ever left.

I have to admit this shocks me I cannot believe Johnson would go from Navy to SMU, but I guess if he does then the ponies have done very well he is a great coach.

Johnson is a fantastic coach. That would be a massive hire for SMU.

SMU needs a massive hire! Look at the AD to understand the choice.

He could have any number of BCS jobs.

Didn't Johnson have a shot to take the BC or NC State job last season

I won't believe this until it happens. I don't like the idea of Johnson going to SMU because he WILL make them better.

As we will continue to play SMU, I think it helps us for them to get better. We shouldn't fear a good SMU.

Norm, BTW, was just discussing the possibility of Johnson to SMU, and not dismissively. The other thing to consider are the recruiting difficulties at Navy. You know he'd be a coach who wouldn't whine about the tough admission standards as his excuse

"TEXAS TIES" are overrated, people. A good coach is a good coach is a good recruiter is a good recruiter. This would be an absolutely monstrous hire for SMU. If people are somehow worried that Paul Johnson is not good enough to coach here, I have to believe there is no one good enough. If Orsini lands PJ, he deserves tenure (not that he would stay).

Orsini is doing a great job. The fact that Paul Johnson is being seriously considered to a choice at SMU is a big deal.
