I have not been able to get anything reliable out of those who would have the most information of anyone that I know re: the Paul Johnson to SMU rumor. I think it could very well be true but I have a sneaking suspicion that this is one of those things that Paul Johnson may not want getting out this early if he indeed is working on a deal with SMU. I also know that Navy Boosters will probably do anything to keep him. I think Johnson would be a great hire but I'm afraid this could turn into another Kragthorpe-esque situation if it gets too hot for him too early. Train may already be down the track on that though - don't know how to stop it. FWIW.

If it's being reported by CBS Sports, you have a tough task ahead of you. Reporters are in the biz of 'breaking stories' and if this one is true then they've done their job.

That said...I'll believe it when I see it.

It would be a dream to hear this Paul Johnson thing blow up. And then we would move on to the next no name bum that would have you guys salivating all over.

Are you a reporter? You seem to have plenty of sources, but you don't talk like an insider.

Nope - just pompous - which is half the requirement for being a reporter.

If he stays, his market drops. He is a blue chip stock that has to move. If he doesn't leave Navy this year, that's a big risk of going down.

But help me understand, you said you don't have anything reliable about this story. But you know that Navy boosters will probably do anything to keep him. Don't you think that if a school has a popular coach on their campus, they will do everything to keep him? That's really not shedding any light.

Lord have mercy, but I am sorta, kinda agreeing with biggin'

Darth is very afraid that this thing could blow up because it got out 48 hrs too soon.

Darth,
If Johnson backs out, that's because he's going to Georgia Tech. After he beat Notre Dame -- and I don't care how bad the Irish are. Navy broke the nation's longest losing streak, and that carries a lot of clout. Plus, they won in South Bend -- he can't stay there.

But if bigbagofnothin' had this information first, he would have posted something similar. Keep in mind his mantra has been little interest in this job and he's pro-Barnett. What does that mean? Ask him.

He made a post that may have some truth to that, but one thing media likes to do is build a fear factor. And there's two reasons for that.
1. He didn't get it first.
2. He couldn't confirm it because CBS and The Sporting News appear to have better sources.

So what does he do. He lashes out with this. Anything is possible with this process. Nothing is ever clear cut.

But his mantra of no interest has faded because the search has to led to this and whatever the Kragthorpe thing was.

Obviously, somebody is interested in this job. And the names appear to better than what he is suggesting.
