If Navy wins Saturday, Johnson (44-29 at Navy) will have led the Midshipmen to five straight eight-win seasons.

They are already slated for their fifth straight bowl – the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 20. Navy (7-4) beat Notre Dame this season to break a 43-game losing streak to the Irish.

Navy, which has limited talent because of the academy's academic and service requirements, had gone 1-20 in the two seasons before Johnson's arrival. Johnson won Division I-AA titles in 1999 and 2000 at Georgia Southern.

SMU went 1-11 this season and fired Bennett with four games remaining. The Mustangs have had one winning season since 1989.

Johnson has been mentioned in several coaching searches, almost exclusively at schools in BCS conferences.



Also, someone posted the other day that he was Hawai'is OC which ran the spread...I think this guy will throw plenty of balls with the right QB.

All the naysayers need to actually WATCH and marvel at this offense. I used to watch the Georgia Southern attack back then and it is simply mind-boggling.

And it's NOT 21 pts maybe, his lowest scoring game this year was 24...I bet his average is in the high 30s.

And guess what? 1st and Goal from the 1 yard line is NOT A PROBLEM.

Don't forget that he put up more points against North Texas running the ball that we did throwing it every down.

So would everyone else on this board - but that is an option that is not available to us. We are in a non-BCS conference and a successful coach in the SEC is concerned about finding a job where he can win a NC not a CUSA championship.

The offensive scheme has nothing to do with that. IT's purely a coaching decision whether or not to 'go for it' in the 1st half of an overtime.

In this case, gutsy move. But I think we've proven that to be a wrong decision.
