Note: A report on CBSSports.com that Navy coach Paul Johnson could be named the new head coach at SMU early next week is being denied by Naval Academy officials.

"The Naval Academy has not been contacted by anyone to gain permission to talk to Coach Johnson and Coach Johnson has not talked to anyone," said Navy sports information director Scott Strasemeier.

sounds like a non-denial denial

Turner's comments:

Turner said a hire has yet to be finalized because the candidates SMU is looking at are still working at their current jobs and their seasons have not finished yet. He said the school has been talking primarily with representatives of the candidates rather than directly contacting them.

Turner said there would be a lot of movement in the next week toward hiring the new coach. The school would like whoever is hired to meet with the Board of Trustees, who hold their December meetings next Thursday and Friday.

The Naval Academy officials are not denying that Johnson will be named later in the week.
