Sorry about the posting of an imminent announcement today, I did have good reason to believe that would happen. Although my contact refuses to speak anymore about the situation, he led me to believe a deal with Paul is done and that they spent the day talking timing for release. I do not know, for fact, that papers are signed - which means anything could happen still.

No they are not. Paul Johnson did not leave preparations for Army/Navy to go sign Contracts to go somewhere else. The Navy AD has reported to day that SMU has not requested permission to talk to Johnson a requirement under NCAA rules. Just sit back and tell me that makes sense. He's waiting for the post-game bidding war.

Hah. No need to apologize. I had also heard that an announcement today was a possibility. But in reality there is no reason that an announcement would be made today before the Army-Navy game.
Most likely he will sign the papers on Monday or Tuesday and a press conference will be held on Wednesday.

Stal Not saying you're not right, but why would they admit that right before the Army-Navy game.

OK think about this-how much negative publicity would SMU and Johnson receive by signing a Contract the day before the Army/Navy Game in a TIME OF WAR. You would have to be deaf(not death), dumb and blind to be that stupid. You talk about Fran being a sleazebag-geez this would be a media disaster.
Yeah, because NCAA rules get followed every day
I could buy that SMU has possibly used intermediaries to make an end run around the rules concerning contacting/negotiating with a coach who is under contract, but if Johnson makes a quick announcement that he's coming here, I expect Navy to scream bloody murder, and with good cause. It's not just an NCAA rule, its illegal to interfere with the man's current contract without contacting his employer first.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

Was told today (by mustang1991 - got to give credit where credit is due) that because Service Academy employees are considered government employees .... Johnson is the highest-paid government employee in the country. Interesting.
