I really really really hate that song...and I really don't understand why they invoke "Boomers" when they fancy themselves "Sooners" but I digress...
Here's my 1 year wishlist for SMU football:
1. Checked endzones, stands full of at least 50% SMOO fans
2. Less "Peruna" at the games and more cadence mixed in
3. Students singing "she'll be loaded with peruna" when we do play "Peruna" so it doesn't seem like we are oddly fond of "She'll be coming around the Mtn."
4. Better tackling
5. More creative play-calling
6. A WOW coach
7. A top 4 finish in CUSA and a bowl game

Less Peruna? You're kidding, right? They barely play it as it is. Heck, compared to what I used to do back in the day, we used to play it that many times in the first quarter.

I loved it when they would play it over and over, lowering the volume as our offense went to the line and firing it up when the ball was snapped.
Go RED! Go BLUE! Go MUSTANGS! S-M-U!!

Yes, that's exactly how we used to do it when I was in school. Doubt it'll ever happen again.

There are NCAA rules about when the band can play that limit that type of thing now. Also, the athletic department limits band playing time so that they can have more advertisements announced.

NCAA rules about when bands can play mostly center around hearing the snap count, thus the playing quietly as the teams line up, and going to full volume after the snap.

If you were at the last Baylor v SMU game at Ford Stadium then you know how a band can stretch that rule...

I've always wondered how often these subjective fan/band interference penalties are called. Anyone know of a band et. al. receiving a penalty in the last 20 years?

I realize there are rules. There have been "rules" for some time(in fact, they were there when I was in school). However, there are ways to work around the rules. I'll just leave it at that. Yes, I also realize that there are spots where they can't play due to the announcements but as far as playing Peruna, there are ways to work around it...if the people in charge wanted to do it. couch 'em wrote:I've always wondered how often these subjective fan/band interference penalties are called. Yes. In 1992, UNT got a penalty in their game vs. SMU due to interference from the band. It was funny to see Dennis Parker go over to the band and give them a chewing out because of the penalty. That's the only time that I've actually seen it called with my own eyes.
