The Power of 26-5A
Posted: Mon Dec 03, 2007 9:42 amI know I'd like coach update also this morning , but to change gears just wanted to point out the power of distrct 26-5A football once again. All 4 teams from that district (Madison, Smithson Valley, Judson, Reagan) still in playoffs, even though recruiting down here has not been a priority. They will now play each other this weekend and knock each other out, but still it is the only district to produce state champs at both Div. 1 and Div. 2 level the same year (Roosevelt and Judson when Dausin coached at Roosevelt).
I understand good teams exist in Dallas and Houston, but again if the bigger BCS school are going to recruit there why not focus some for our attention in recruiting down in South Texas where we may have a chance to actually get some quality kids and there still is good football played. That is what Tulsa, Houston and UTEP have done last couple of years and that is why Tulsa has landed Reagan's Marcus Wright, Houston has the LB from Smithson Valley, UTEP got the safety (Demps), etc.
I really hope new administration will look at recruiting some of these kids from winning programs down here b/c they are playing for and helping the other teams in our own conference. Spoke to one of the Madison coaches yesterday at Church and he mentioned that now that we are getting a new coach maybe there finally will be an interest from SMU as to some of his quality kids.
Hope we name someone soon to at least salvage some recruiting. And again, hope we look everywhere for quality kids and not just those who come to our camps or live in East Texas.
