...to see what other openings pop up? from all accounts, smu and duke will offer this week, and possibly GT may be in the mix.

but, some pretty big-time BCS schools may still drop the hammer and who knows what will open..(UCLA, Washington, etc.)...we forget b/c we fired PB so long ago, but a lot of schools are grading their coaches now as their seasons just ended.

I don't know why we all assume PJ is so likely to leave Navy. Has it ever occurred to you that he may just stay where he is? He makes nearly 2 mil a year, 11 of their 12 games were televised nationally(1 on NBC, 1 on CBS, 3 on the ESPN Network,6 on CSTV), he gets to meet the POTUS every year in the Rose Garden, he plays in one of (if not THE) greatest rivalry game on national TV every year (Army-Navy), he coaches kids that say, "yes sir, no sir, no excuse sir." Heck, those people at Navy are going to name a building for him if he stays there.

Seriously, dude...what do we offer him that's better than that??

Are you dense enough to think that is what he has in mind when he says a deal has to be really "special" for him to leave his current diggs? Special = a few more bucks (they'll match our offer anyway) and hot chicks (he's 50, married with a daughter in high school.)

Get real.

i think football-wise, he has nothing left to prove at NAVY and quite honestly, they have hit their peak. SMU offers a new challenge, but i am not stupid enough to think that if GT comes calling he wont go there.

re:Get real

You need to "get real"!

SMU has alot to offer and besides that there can be a
million other reasons why he may want to leave your
described "paradise at Navy".

Who knows.....
maybe he hates his boss
maybe his wife is not happy there
maybe his kids are not happy there
maybe he needs a change of scenery
maybe he likes warmer weather
maybe he wants a big new challenge
maybe he "clicks" with Orsini
maybe he loves being the "hero" & wants to do it here

it's not uncommon in business for talented people to
move on to new challenges....

It's amazing how many people that seem to think SMU has
so little to offer and basically everything sucks about SMU.....
but they hang out on PonyFans to spew their negative crap
day in and day out.

If it sucks so bad here...what the hell are ya'll doing on
PonyFans all the time?

There's a great article somenoe posted on PF interviewing Johnson's wife and daughter. It gives great insight on how PJ thinks. She is quoted at saying "just tell Paul he can't do it and he will want to prove you wrong." Or something to that point. What she was talking about was when PJ took the Navy job. Apparently everyone told him not to take the job, it was a dead in job and no one could win at Navy consistantly. Does that sound like the SMU job?

My point is most succuessful coaches have high opinions of themselves and there abilities. PJ has done everything he can do at Navy there's nothing more to prove. He's ready for a change and a new challenge.

Exactly. Who knows? You! You know! You know Paul Johnson and he tells you these things?! Hell no, you don't. So you ASSume all (or one) of these is true.

Actually, regarding warm weather, his daughter is on record saying she wants to live where it snows. Please, do research before posting something like that. http://navy.scout.com/2/676236.html

Really??

Raleigh averages 58 inches a year. Dallas averages 44 inches a year.

Research, people! Research!

You should have read your research a little better, it said Dallas averaged 44 inches of snow "during the last ice age".
