With Nebraska announcing the hiring of Bo Pelini could this mean that SMU could look into Gill now...?

Oh, he will leave Buffalo in a heart beat for the right amount of money or the right job. Pellini was just a better hire. Black coach in Nebraska? C'mon JT, nothing racial, but think about it....... They can play there but not coach there. At least not HC. This will be the time to get him, because if he was turned down by Nebraska, he is pissed. After all the blood he shed for that University. He is at Buffalo. Everyone is trying to leave Buffalo.

No, Turner Gill could be a leper and Nebraska would welcome him with open arms. It was a matter of Pelini is what the Huskers need right now. Tommy Frazier could walk into the HC job if he had a fair amount of coaching experience somewhere first too.

What do you mean Pellini is what they needed? Turner Gill could not do the job defensively? He could bring in a DC? Remember Arkansas made Pellini look stupid with one player. Just say what you are trying to say. Pellini is not a gift from heaven. Somebody in the coaching world new something when Nebraska did not hire him to begin with. We will see what happens. I will give you this. The recruiting at Nebraska has droppd off due to the fact that they are Nebraska. Inner City kids say hell no to that area. You ever been there? Nothing there but rednecks and the college world series. Not being racial just being real. You have to have a deciding factor to attract HS players today. One is winning, but that only goes so far. If you are good enough the pros will find you at Angelo State University. We have the deciding factor!

when it came down to it, coach O went with the traditions of the BLACKSHIRTS by hiring Pelini...and Coach Osborne made the right call. Bo's already 1-0 as Nebraska coach and Osborne knows Pelini will be able to hire a good OC...maybe Gil...he could be pulling a Jerry Johnson if he gets Gil as OC

Frasier is an assistant not one of the coordinators. Nebraska had black QB's when they ran the ball all over everybody. Where have they went? To schools that throw the ball. There are no black QB's running the option, they are called running back now! Gil, Frasier, and all the rest went as far as college. HS players to day have more knowledge of what they want and they want to go to the next level. Passing numbers does that for college QB's.

Thats funny! Nothing traditional about it. I don't know why he made the decision and neither do you, but it has been made. We will see what happens in the year to come. Gil being OC, I don't think so. Step down, that is what I am talking about. Brother aint good enough to be a HC?

Would be great, but no - I'll bet anything he stays in Buffalo now that the Nebraska job has gone to Pellini.

You ever been to Mississippi? It is in the Delta, the south. That was a great hire for Miss. Nebraska is cold and lonely sitting out in the middle of nowhere. Inner city kids are having a hard time going there now with all the parity in college football.

The comments about Osborne not hiring Turner Gill because he is black is ridiculous. Turner Gill is one of his best friends and they talk on a weekly basis. Pelini was just a better candidate. Nebraska's defense has been ruined by Kevin Cosgrove, so he hired the best defensive coordinator available, who also coached in the NFL for nine years under Pete Carroll, Mike Sherman, and George Seifert and has been one of the best defensive coordinators in the country for the past five years at Nebraska, Oklahoma, and LSU. Turner Gill just doesn't have the experience yet to coach at that level--two years in the MAC and only a position coach at Nebraska other than that. Still Turner was Osborne's second choice and would probably be decent for SMU, but we should take someone who has a better recruiting pull. I don't think most Texas high school kids know who Turner Gill is since he played before they were born.

Turner will do just fine for himself. If he wants to leave Buffalo, he will probably end up at Colorado State or Washington State. (He would be a great recruiter at Colorado State because they will be able to snag a lot of the Nebraska kids that don't get offers in Lincoln.)
