Some of you may remember that during the Iranian Hostage Crisis in the 1970s, ABC News began "Nightline" with Ted Koppel hosting a nightly update of the situation overseas.
Considering that we - as SMU Mustangs football fans - are now in Day 38 of being held 'hostage', this thread will continue with daily updates on the current head coach search for the SMU football team until one is hired.
It's DAY 38: Ponyfans Held Hostage!

I suppose this better than being in some sort of suicide cult.

Actually, we have been held hostage ever since the DP.
Finally, it looks like we are going to spend what it takes to get a real coach.

We don't have to wait until another president is elected to get released, do we?

Were you not paying attention during all away and overtime games the last 6 years... that is what being a faithful Mustang fan is...

It's DAY 39: Ponyfans Held Hostage!
Yesterday (Monday, Dec. 3, 2007) was a very busy day on pf.com with a thread entitled 'Guess Who's (sic) Plane is Headed to Baltimore?' keeping thousands of SMU fans guessing and speculating about the destination and passengers aboard Gerald J. Ford's private jet! Was it Ford, Orsini, Turner and...Paul Johnson...current head football coach at Navy? The thread took on a life of its own and - to be honest - took fan frenzy to new heights on The Hilltop! Some fans were even tracking the jet on a a web site that shows the exact location of aircraft over the United States and posting minute-by-minute coverage of its path from Dallas Love Field Airport to Baltimore, MD and back! Then...to add more craziness to the thread...one poster whose avatar is a dancing purple hippo said he'd go to Love Field to welcome coach Johnson to Dallas! Lights being turned on at Ford Stadium added even more fuel to the fire, as did an email from Boss Orsini to athletic department staffers urging them to not speak to ANYONE about the ongoing search because of the sensitivity and timing of the issue. Several pf.scom posters were also positioned around Love Field during the evening hours to see if they could spot anyone from SMU or Paul Johnson but - no...this all appears to be another successful ploy by SMU AD Steve Orsini to keep SMU fans held 'hostage' for another day!

It's DAY 40: Ponyfans Held Hostage!
God managed to do everything in 40 days (and sometimes 6!)...but not SMU's AD Steve Orsini, it seems! It's been 40 days since former head football coach Phil Bennett was fired on The Hilltop. Many names have been mentioned for his replacement but, so far, no one has been named!
Perhaps a plague of locusts would do the trick? A flood? Famine?
C'mon, Boss Orsini! Pony Fans have become more than a bit irritated at all of this waiting...and waiting...and waiting! It's time to name the new head football coach at S.M.U!

This thread is unbelievable. We've raised cash like nobody's business to hire a coach the likes of which hasn't been seen here in ages. We've got an AD out on the trail who is aggressively pursuing said coaching candidates -- while simultaneously fighting off other suitors from BCS conferences -- and whose only sin is to remain mum because he believes that doing so will help us get a better coach. And you come on with this? Grow up.

No, ponyboy...what's unbelieveable is that almost EVERY school who let their head football coach go AFTER SMU did (the Mustangs were the first Div. 1 FBS school to announce a firing) has already hired their replacement and SMU is - once again - picking up the dregs. Frankly, it's beginning to look like Orsini got his a** in a crack and can't find ANYONE who wants the job and now he's scrambling faster than Justin Willis! Can you honestly say that after 40 DAYS the fact that SMU still hasn't named a head football coach doesn't just bother you a little bit? Recruiting time is wasting away....and SMU is being left in the starting gate.

We may not get him, but fighting with Georgia Tech and Duke over a coaching candidate isn't "picking up the dregs," my friend. Honestly, I really wonder sometimes.

I'll believe it when I see it...no news conference, no announcement yet...40 days after the fact. Yeah, I wonder, too, sometimes...what the heLL takes things so long on The Hilltop?

Like another poster on this board says: to be an SMU fan you have to get a sense of humor. You'll believe what when you see it? You don't believe that Paul Johnson was here on campus yesterday? You don't believe in Georgia Tech's interest?
ponyboy: I'll believe it when I see Paul Johnson standing next to Turner & Orsini and announcing that he's the next head football coach at SMU....until then...
The thread will continue for each day that SMU does not name a head football coach.
