Mustang Nation

I can't let a day like this without taking time to talk about my view on the state of Mustang Nation. Weeks have now past since Phil Bennett was let go and, still, we have yet to officially name our new coach. Fear not, Mustangs.

Steve Orsini is the man in charge, and I believe he has been executing his plan while making necessary changes due to outside factors. However, the time is drawing near where Steve will stand before us all and introduce the person who will make or break the future of Mustang Football. The energy and excitement that has built up during the wait, however, has surpassed anything I could have ever expected.

Tons of rumors, millions of sources, hundreds of coach debates, and THOUSANDS of Pony Fans tracking an airplane as it crosses the country, travelling first to Baltimore and then quickly departing again for Love Field - hopefully escorting our long awaited new coach, Paul Johnson. Who ever would have thought that so much interest in our team could be sparked by a damn airplane? I want to see this next season - on the boulevard AND in the stands! I know the PF faithful will continue their support, but I challenge the current students who peruse this board to come out, bring your friends (and a flask), and stay late. The future depends not only on the team, but on our fans as well.

I, for one, am excited about the future. I am excited about the announcement that is almost upon us. I trust in Steve Orsini today to make us proud. And I sure as hell can't wait to see you guys at our first bowl game in WAY too long....sooner rather than later.

Forever and always, Go Mustangs!

I sure hope you are right about Steve O. I spoke with Steve O in Houston for the SMU/UH game and asked him how hard would it be to get new Mustang Club members this year for the Morgan Campaign. I told him last off season was easy because we were coming off a bowl eligible season. He said, "Even after the season we have had this year (we were 1-7 at that point), the new coach we hire will allow you to sell new memberships to the Mustang Club. I promise you, you will not be dissapointed." That was November 4th or 5th. Perhaps he has had the new coach locked up all this time?

I had to try to regain your favor after losing some cred replying to my own posts on the Secret Coach thread. I can be me again.

this promise of being excited does not jibe with the obvious uncertainly in this whole thing that still exists. How can Orsini be reacting to outside factors, yet also promise we will be excited? Maybe he just thinks our expectations are low and anybody he gets will be exciting. Given that Johnson is not a certainty, who else are we interviewing right now? Who is Plan B to Johnson? No one has any idea which is very strange.

Why did Georgia Tech want Edsal more than PJ? I find that interesting.

Speaking of Plan B, the Miami flight is intriguing. That should be the first clue. However, the reports over the weekend had been that June Jones was Plan B, but at the moment there are no flights scheduled to depart Love Field for Miami--or anywhere that would be a refueling stop in that direction. We may be down to Plan C, D, or E.

I heard that Castro has a hell of a football coach...Miami is the perfect fueling stop for that flight.
